Breakfast Cereal in the PC

I noticed this change in the SFO PC this morning, and I kind of like it. Is this just SFO or is it systemwide?

IAHtraveler Dec 25, 2008 2:53 pm

Was it Total? I saw it in EWR in early November, and there's a thread where it's discussed a few weeks ago.

suzanneaustin Dec 25, 2008 3:08 pm

It has been in AUS for awhile.

It was Honey Nut Chex.

Sorry for starting a new thread, I should've done a search first.

Wirelessly posted (HTC-8500/1.2 Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 7.6))

I have seen it at IAH, SAT, and LAS. I welcome change. Perhaps these are changes that came with outsourced staff.

I was in the IAH PC yesterday and thought I was seeing anothr upgrade when staff running tortillas through the toaster. Ended up being staff breakfast.

cova Dec 25, 2008 9:03 pm

I saw it at IAH Term E PC this morning (12/25). They had cereal on both levels with a milk dispenser. I too thought - what a nice upgrade.

Same types as served in coach. Honey Nut on the main level, Total on the top level.

kingalien Dec 25, 2008 10:43 pm

Very nice, more food options is always a good thing.

ctownflyer Dec 26, 2008 12:39 am

LGA had quite the selection of cereal the other day.

Any Uitfrays Oopslays?

bocastephen Dec 26, 2008 8:31 am

FLL has a new automatic toaster, cereal, milk and even - wait for it - Nutella!!!

Only problem - what is appropriate to spread Nutella on for breakfast? Does it go with bagels?

yes plain bagels should be fine.
I couldn't figure out the toaster so I just had a plain bagel untoasted.....one person I saw try it the bagel ended up on the bottom I did not want to be the idiot to repeat that feat :D

Scott6067 Dec 26, 2008 9:38 am

I saw Nutella in the SAT club the other morning but not in any of the other clubs I have been in recently but also not something I was looking for.

kingalien Dec 26, 2008 9:50 am

Mmmmm, nutella on a toasted english muffin ^. Make sure you fill all the nooks and crannies with nutella.

cerealmarketer Dec 26, 2008 1:11 pm

Saw the Nutella at EWR.

Cereal is always a nice touch (of course it is :D). Hope CO isn't paying for it though -- back when i was a 'cerealmarketer' we used to include airline distribution as part of our sampling budget. We'd pay for the product and an agency would give it to the airlines, but this was back when most airlines served cereal in coach.

Actually saved us money vs other sampling because we'd just pay for product. Normally with sampling you get hit with unreasonable labor / handling fees for the distribution.

Total and Chex were perennial since the target demo fit well with business travelers -- and both happened to be in the same business unit/budget. Also Cheerios for the heart health message.

Hi Everyone, glad to see you've noticed some of the new additions to our Presidents Club morning snack selection. We're in the process of introducing breakfast cereal, Nutella and Walker's shortbread biscuits to our U.S. clubrooms. As always, we appreciate your feedback. Enjoy!

I love Walker's Shortbread, but I have never considered it as breakfast food.
This is definitely a big ^ for the PC food selection.

This is great news and another sign that CO listens to the traveler!

I do have two questions:

1. Has CO looked anymore into the NWA WC type coffee machines?

2. When can we expect news of the reciprical agreement with UA to be announced? (I do like that we got Orange County and PHX at this time)

thaliajen Dec 27, 2008 2:48 am

It's nice to hear that they've made some changes. I fly CO, but when it comes to clubs, I think NW beat them hands down. As mentioned, the PCs could use those coffee/cocoa machines. And I wish they'd have an automatic soda dispenser, like NW does. That way, when I come in at 5:30 am, I don't have to hunt someone down to get me a Diet Coke. NW also has those little fridges, the ones that hold all the cans of juice, tonic water, etc.

I flew through FLL a few weeks ago and was dismayed to learn that the only snack I really like (the soft cheese that comes in wax with a red wrapper- is it Babel?) is now gone. The bartender said that CO made them stop carrying it because they had to stay in line with the other PCs! If they really need to keep all the PCs offering the EXACT same things, instead of taking away a favorite treat, why couldn't they supply all the rest of the PCs with the cheese? Those other cheese pieces are too heavy for me, and I loved the Babel, or whatever it was called.

I AM happy about Walker's shortbread cookies- I lived on them last Spring in the UK. I look forward to seeing these changed when I fly to LAS on the 4th. I didn't see any in FLL or IAH a few weeks back, so I hope EWR will have them!

Also, not that I mind tipping the bartender, I do mind tipping EVERY time I go up to get a refill of soda. With a long layover like I had a few weeks ago, I would've gone broke if I'd had to tip every time. Still, I got a few curious glances when I didn't tip on the 3rd trip. We pay for the club, and its perks, so why do I give them a buck each time I get a tiny glass of Diet Coke? I'd do better bringing it in, but that's against the rules.

I love CO, have been a Plat for years and a PC member for the past 6. I enjoy their services and am not trying to malign them in any way. I simply wonder why our PCs seem lacking compared to others. At the very least, they could give us the coffee machines! :)

cova Dec 27, 2008 3:25 am

I also noticed that juices (except orange juice in a dispenser) have been moved to the bar and available from the bartender (instead of pitchers). I am not sure if this is a beverage consolidation (to keep refrigerated) or a health item (keep open bulk containers away from general access).

sletohdarnoc Dec 27, 2008 11:24 am

Honey Bunches of Oats gets my vote.

Weatherboy Dec 27, 2008 12:16 pm

Now all we need...

...is an omelet station and someone whipping up belgian waffles and we'll be all set. :p

tfred Dec 27, 2008 4:57 pm

bring back the good doughnuts

you know, the big round ones. they were delicious

I am fine without those around :D

The omelets and waffles now that would be an addition! Even if limited to only international passengers it would be welcome.

Be careful what you wish for. I'm not a coffee drinker but I've heard mixed reviews on the NW machines.

So don't tip. I don't tip for every drink in the PC (especially non-alcoholic ones) and never received "curious glances".

Looking forward to the cereal. Didn't see it when I last flew in mid-Dec.

Awesome! Walker's is a very welcome addition, as is the Nutella.

CO Insider, please tell me ATL will be getting these too. They still haven't added the additional cheese selections that other clubs have had for over a year now.

Haha. Yesterday IAH A didn't have the Walker's, but there were plenty of Biscoffs, and a bowl full of Nutella.

IAH-E & CLE both had the Nutella this weekend... it was my first time seeing that in a club and it thrills me! Now if they only had some good bananas to dip in it.

The Nutella sightings are what excite me!! Glad to hear IAH-E has some! ^ ^

FLL had some Nutella the other day, althoug no Walker's Shortbread cookies. Of note, don't the UA RCCs serve Walker's products?

IAH-C South has the Walker's today!

I know earlier it was discussed that Nutella is for Bagels. What about after breakfast? It's great on bananas, but they don't have any in the club. Do you put it on crackers or just take it home with you for later?

I tried it on the granola bars - you need to be careful, as they break easily (you can tell I put thought into this :) )...and the taste is not bad, but you end up with a sugar rush that would paste a younger person to the ceiling.

Another option - add a splash of hot water to soften, then mix in a cup with the cereal milk to create a neat hazelnut flavored chocolate milk.

worldwidedreamer Jan 18, 2009 11:49 pm

I love the breakfast cereal...but wonder why some stations have 2% milk, and some whole. I have not yet seen my beloved non-fat, but perhaps that is too much to ask?

Forget the bagels, I have been putting the Nutella on the banana muffins. Be careful, it becomes addictive.

I tried that, but the muffins just crumbled into a mess...I thought the PClub clean up lady was going to throttle me.
