What does combining reservations do for me?

I have two trips booked through continental at the moment. When I go to "Manage my reservations", I have to option of combining the two reservations. Is there any advantage to that?

The second reservation is for a day after the end of the first reservation, if that makes any difference.

That feature is good for combining multiple reservations into one group. It does not change the reservations at all. So for example, I am flying to HKG next week and have 4 seperate reservations booked for the travelers in my group. I was able to "combine" them into one group that I named "Hong Kong". If you book a car and a hotel through co.com, you can also add those reservations to you group or trip to manage them easier. All in all, I really like the feature. ^

It groups the various bits together, but there is no real coordination, so if there are IRROPs or something having them "linked" doesn't really help with anything.

Thank you both

And smb12, patience is rarely a virtue of mine But in this case, I like to think that the hour I waited between my posts indicates some measure of patience... if not a lot

I have a question about possible combination of reservations. As I prepare to book a trip to LAS in April, I am thinking about redeeming miles for my wife's and son's ticket's from my Silver OP account, and purchasing my own ticket if the price is right in order to earn miles, or to just redeem miles for all three tickets.

I know that if I book all three tickets with miles at the same time, then my wife and son are extended my elite benefits of seat selection, baggage allowance, etc. If I buy their tickets with miles, and my ticket separately with cash, is there a way to combine the reservations into one, with the primary goal that all three of us can travel with elite benefits?

Historically there were stories of reward tickets booked with elite miles getting elite treatment, even for non-elite passengers. I haven't done it in a while so I cannot speak to whether that is still the case.

You'll certainly be able to get them seats based on your status as the reservation will be in your account. For baggage I'm not sure what would happen if they are not tagged as elite. Will two bags not be enough for you as a group? You'll all be able to board and use the ticket counter based on your status.

Just a note re OP's question.

I booked in the past two CO connecting flights separately, so I received two separate PNRs. Combining them online doesn't do anything in CO's system. I had to call CO to get these two reservations cross-referenced so that in case my first flight was delayed the GAs of my second flight would be aware of my new arrival time and reason for delay. Since I didn't arrive late I don't know for sure how well this x-referencing actually works though.

I can only speak for UA based on the last booking I made for a trip of my friend and his wife to OGG. Originally, I booked myself with them in order to get them seated in the E+.
