What to expect in first class?
 

Hello all, I am new to this forum and am looking forward to hearing your opinions.

In February, I will be taking a CO flight from CMH (Columbus, Ohio) to SNA with a layover in IAH. I will be in first class on the 737-700 and 737-800 jet. On my flight from CMH to IAH it is listed as a dinner flight, can you give me an outline of what to expect? On the return I have a lunch flight from SNA to IAH.

Also, do these planes have a personal entertainment system? Anything else I should know or expect would be greatly appreaciated! Thank you in advance for your opinions.

CO's service in F is superb. Both the 737-700 and 737-800 have inflight entertainment and both will have LiveTV installed in them beginning Jan. I am not sure how long it will take to install LiveTV so I wouldn't expect it for a flight in Feb.

The meals will very, but are usually pretty good in my opinion. Typically several courses with a choice of entree.

The 73Gs and 738 have overhead in-flight entertainment, but no personal entertainment units.

There are no entertainment systems on 73x flights. You'll get free drinks (pre-takeoff drink), meals (3 courses, choice of two entrees). FA will hang up your coat...

I don't wish to be rude, but I didn't want to start a new thread, as my question is fairly similar.

I may be flying EWR to LHR (CO) early next year, and fortunately it will be in BF.

I have 2 questions:

How much nicer is BF than domestic first? (I have flown domestic first several times, and SQ Business once - which was awesome)

If I have a choice between 757 and 777, which would you recommend?

There are entertainment systems on all Boeing 737-700 and -900 series aircraft, on most 737-800, and on some Boeing 737-300 aircraft.

The two are not even in the same league.

That's a tough one and completely subjective. I prefer the 757 because of the seat and AVOD but all 777s are being refitted with these systems.

Not to nit pick, but it should be said that most of the 738s and 739ERs have entertainment systems. The ones that have been delivered to CO this year do not have any IFE but they will be the first to get LiveTV.

You got me there. I was too focused on the 739s so I did not include -900ER but forgot completely about the new 738s.

Now that I re-read what I posted, I realize that I was actually a little off myself. None of the 739ERs have IFE, all of the 739s have IFE and most of the 738s have IFE. :)

No problems with not starting a new thread, but perhaps tagging your question on to one that is more relevant would have been more useful. ;)

CO's domestic product is the best in the air IMHO. First is great! Your coat will be hung up in the closet, you will be offered a preflight drink (including hooch), the seats are wide and comfortable, the IFE headsets are free. No middle seats, obviously. Unlimited drinks during the flight (subject to alcohol overload, obviously) some sort of nuts, at least a "cold plate" on every flight I have been on that wasn't late at night, and a hot meal during meal times. Great FAs, constant attention, and if you want to be left the hell alone, tell them you want to rest and they will do their level best to keep the BS out of your face.

The new 757s with the AVOD and the super-reclining seats rock the HOUSE!!

I cannot WAIT for live TV. Bring back E-mail access (yes, I was willing to pay $5.95 per flight) or better yet, INTERNET access, and you have got an unbeatable combination!

Which aircraft have the live airshow on it?

b757-200, b767-200/-400, & b777-200

I would agree with one caveat. CO's domestic FC is quite consistent, but this also means that CO transcon isn't much more enhanced than the ordinary domestic FC (apart form a more elaborate meal service).

While the workhorse of the CO transcon fleet is the 738/739, with its 38" seat pitch, it is possible to fly in greater comfort on UA PS, AA's 767 transcon service, and with VX.

Of course, these "premium" transcon services are only available in the NYC to LAX/SFO markets on these other carriers.

Right now, the closest CO gets to this level of space on transcon is with the occasional 752 EWR-LAX, an a/c which will soon be largely replaced by the domestically-configured 739's.
