Taking this off topic...but I can tell you that twice in my life I was moved on UA. (happen to BOTH be out of the same station) Once was a few weeks ago.

I was called to the podium and it was REQUESTED if I would move because the g/a wanted to get a mom/son together. This was a E+ window for E+aisle. I do NOT like aisles. I requested another E+ window, and he stated he didnt have one, but would get the next pax. I took the seat...telling him it wasnt a big deal.

Well..big deal it was!!! As I boarded, he handed me a F bp for my connecting flight, and smiled and thanked me again for changing seats.

So...just a VERY VERY small sample, but this is how UA does it.

When asked in a reasonable way most people try to respond in a positive manner. Its when something is taken from them with little on nothing said that ill feeling are created.

I have found my seat taken from me when I OLCI and of course find myself in a much worse position with little or nothing I can do about it. Why can't a e-mail notice be sent when changes are made to an elite's seat "request"?

Thanks for the explanation. What I still dont understand is we (me and the co employee who swiped his Card) saw 32J & 32K as white meaning available also we tried for 33D as 33 D & E was white and the kiosk wouldnt let Us get any seat other than 41C. Im sure had I been able to get 33D that 33E would have gone empty and I would have flown, as row 33 would not have been a problem during the turbluence. By the time I was able to get to the GA all that was left was Middle seats, and as you know I felt Id rather not fly then fly in 41C

Hi craz, there's no easy to explain this other than our systems are sometimes latent when reflecting simultaneous changes to the seat map. In your case, we were in the process of assigning these specific seats to other customers at the gate at the same time the kiosk was making its request (the gate won).

Unfortunately, there's no easy way to do this, considering we handle thousands of the most popular combinations of destination countries and nationalities within this functionality. Suffice to say, when you're itinerary and nationality combination falls into the <4% of the scenarios we can't handle online, your check-in will need to be completed at the airport.

As a U.S. national traveling to Austria, you'd fit within the 96% of the scenarios that continental.com check-in is able to handle. Hungary, on the other hand, is not. Sorry about that.

Why put a Plat in the back when a much better seat was available? If it all was Gate control I dont believe the GA was able to assign both 32J & K and 33 D & E at the exact same time, so while the GA was taking care of the 32 shouldnt the computer have reassigned me to row 33, or any aisle that might have been available in the Blue seats?

As mentioned above, these specific seats you're referring to were given to other customers at the gate at the same time the kiosk was requesting the best available seat. Based on the timestamps we're able to see, 41C was your best available option.

Unfortunately, the process for retrieving bags that have already been checked is a very involved process. In our hub airports, the process for ad-hoc retrieval can take up to 4 hours. I'm sorry if you were given a more optimistic timeframe than that.

It wasnt the timeframe so much but that in the end after the guy came back and wrote "Loaded" on the slip Enrique gave him, meaning it was on the 56 to CDG and onto BUD and probably lost forever. I was told I then had to go back to the Baggage Office and file a claim, it was then when they looked at the computer that it showed it was sitting in the office for a couple of hrs already.

The CSR took me in there with her and I saw a few dz bags most had the Red tag and Black "R" on it. Yet there were at least 3 people sitting around talking. All they had to do was load them when they got there into the Window and myself or some of the others would have spotted them sitting on a shelf as we walked by looking in to see if they were on a shelf.

I believe it probably came up while I went to the rest room, came back checked the carousel and didnt see it, checked the window and didnt see it so back to C9 and waited some more.

Actually I didnt do too bad for myself, got 3 Marriott Stays in this weekend (roadtrip) a bonus of 10k for less then what it would have cost for me for last Fri night alone.

Working on doing it in Aug if I can get the flights out, getting back is available. this time I will be well prepared:D and no 5:13pm check-in for the 6:15 flight.

The only thing I sort of disagree with is that 41C was the best available that the computer could assign Me. At least at the time that check-in was completed Id say 5:16-5:20. By the time I got to speak to the GA Im 1000% sure 41C was the best seat to be had, but not at 5:16-5:20. No way could even 2 GAs working on 2 computers switch so many seats , before the computer was able to reassign Me any seat.

But 7/23 is past Us so it really doesnt make a difference I felt no seat was much better then suffering in 41C, I know there were somewhere around 20 misconnects but not knowing their seats and if they were already spoken for by other passengers on board, I did what I thought was best for Me and Cancelled the whole thing out. No regrets on my part. And wouldnt hesitate to do so again if faced with the same situation again:(

Hi craz, releasing seat assignments and assigning them to multiple customers concurrently is something we can do with a single entry. That's absolutely what happened in this case. I swear we weren't out to get you!

I didnt think you (CO) was out to get Me, although there were some really Hairy things lately CO did come thru in the end and worked along with Me.

I was unaware that multiple assignments was able to be done with a single entry.

When I went over to the phone bank near the gate to call and cancel out the trip, wanted to make sure it was done before 6:15pm the GA overheard a few things I was discussing with the CSR and yelled a few things. After I hung up with the CSR I went over to the GA and explained everything to her, she apologized she thought I was up to something, actually we had some good laughs and she was very helpful in trying to make sure the bag didnt go on the 56, as she asked a handler she worked with to please try his best as a favor to her to Retrive the bag if at all possible.

She couldnt believe that I wasnt Yelling, Screaming or Cursing Her or CO, I told her why would that make sure I got my bag back, I didnt think so.

last note, as you and most on this board know Im NOT a member of the PC, although I did go there once I saw the length of the line at the gate to try and get out of 41C not knowing as I do now that everything else was already spoken for. Anyway, even w/o knowing what was lying ahead for me I still tried getting to EWR with just enough time to check-in w/o losing my preassigned seat even thou as a Plat I had access to the PC. I honestly do not wish to sit in a PC, even when as a Plat on an Intl flight I have access to it. I dont travel with a LP nor am I interested in drinking what most say is free booze. bout all I do go in for is a couple of apples as you will see by pulling up any of my past res that will show when I went in, it will also show that as I entered Boarding was also being made for the flight I was flying on, no different with the 56 on 7/23

thanks again for looking into everything, I do appreciate it. Please try and see if theres a way to get the bags ASAP into the windows of the BC for eveyones sake.
