New BF Seats?

When can we expect to see or atleast hear about a new BF product? I know that BusinessFirst has won many awards and is a great product, mainly because of the service, but I feel that the seats are getting outdated especially when compared to the competitors (Etihad, Singapore, Emirates, BA, etc). I understand the CO's 787 are going to have the new product, but when can we get news and/or pics of what it will look like?

Also, with the delay in the 787 deliverys, will CO decide to install the seats on the 777s before the 787 arrive?

thanks...

Welcome to FlyerTalk!

The next generation seats are a hot topic; there have been many other threads discussing them.

It looks like we're going to have to wait for the arrival of the B787s to find out more about this new seating product.

And with each 787 production delay we have to wait even longer. I suspect, however, there will be something on display at the next major DO which will be sometime next year.

Hi CO Platinum and Welcome to FT!

Just and friendly piece of advice there is a Search feature to this forum. I am sure if you use that tool, you would find the threads that have talked about this topic, and you might find your answer in them. Always feel free to bump an old thread with a new question.

I doubt very much if the new BF product will be in their new 772's although anything can happen. But we are still waiting for all of the 772's to have the AVOD update.

On a side note, does anyone know what model 777 are in the new order? I heard that two are 200ERs, what about the rest? Any inside information? I hope they are 300ERs or 200LRs.

I and many others asked this very question at the NYC-Mini DO not to long ago. There of course was no answer. From time to time I have tried to check with the boeing website to see where exactly their firm orders for their 777's are going. It could be possible that they get a 300ER but no signs of that yet. Unless some has found something different. For wide body knowledge the Guru is rkkwan perhaps he can see into the crystal ball on this one ;)

All 8 777s on order are -200ERs. But I am pretty sure CO can upgrade the remaining 6 to the 77L or 77W if they want to. No delivery dates set for those yet.

Well, if UA and CO merge, CO could get the new UA seat...

I doubt it would require a merger. Except for DL, which got exclusive North American rights to the Thompson Solution seats, I do not think that there are any seat exclusivity deals out there, so CO would just have to pony up the $$ and buy the seats if they want them.

I'm betting that we're still stuck waiting for the 787 for new BF seats, unless the 787 is delayed more than another 18 months. And even then it is 50/50 in my book.

It will so be worth the wait. I've heard they will be upholstered with the finest Corinthian Pony Leather. Made from real ponies! ^

I think the last thing I might ;) have heard about was sometime early next year. I doubt that dates have been set or that they've made anything of a final decision, but most people thought it would be Jan or Feb due to conflicts in the fall and at the end of the year (ie, football in Texas, then the holiday season).

To be on topic, I have pretty decent doubts they'd release it this soon. I'd think it would be at DO5 instead, and I think that they will try to keep the seat news under wraps for as long as possible until delivery (ie, until DO5) for competitive reasons.
I just checked the timeline, and ANA won't get theirs until late '09 (with the aggressive 9 month flight testing schedule), so I'd doubt CO would get them before early '10, and they could release the seat design just a month or two before release...at around the same time as the DO. This would result in a significant deployment starting in the summer of 2010.

I believe CO Insider has stated that they hope to have the next DO in January.

You could well be right. The B752s will sooned be AVODed from head to tail. The B772s are being upgraded. Maybe they'll deck out the B767s with the NGBF seats. It would be a nice treat for us all!

ak_tt_e61i May 21, 2008 6:15 pm

Not going to put any $$$$ into upgrading the seats on 767's...too old and too much money to do it. Heck I do not believe they will even upgrade the AV system on the 767's.
