"increase the size of IAH's Terminal B from 360,000 square feet to 1.7 million square feet, and will make it larger than the size of Houston's state-of-the-art baseball stadium, Minute Maid Park."

Now I see it. Basically expanding on the scale of a regional shopping mall.

What is it with Houston and calling everything from headsets to ballparks "state-of-the-art." :D

Here is the link to the master plan for IAH. The Master Plan Brochure has some mock ups of the airfield with and without the Marriot. Also I think somewhere within the master plan documents (one of the five files) is a little more detail about the plans.

Yes, but I'm not sure that's the actual plan being used for Terminal B at this point. Those are the documents I was referring to, which date back to 2006. From what I've heard, the final design varies somewhat from what's in that document.

Photo on this Houston Chronicle article looks similar to the drawing of the master plan, on page 1-8 (Figure 1-3).

That comment made me laugh outloud.. But in the near term since alot of these gates are going away pod by pod during the construction you will see B84 being used alot more as overflow for flights from what I have heard.

How about incorporating B84 into the new terminal the way JFK kept the TWA terminal? That way, we can all stroll through and re-live good memories ;)

Here's the clearest illustration of what's been announced this week:

Great illustration. Thanks for posting the link.

With this expansion... will CO doule henumber of PCs in the B Terminal as there will be more gates and passengers now?

cova Apr 9, 2008 7:47 am

Yes, a good illustration. Looks like the Marriott in the terminal is preserved ^. Looks like they could have just continued and connected B to A.

senatorgirth Apr 9, 2008 8:12 am

I remember when IAH consisted of only terminals A and B, with a total of eight "banjo-style" gate pods. IAH was so far out in the hinterlands that the trek to the airport felt like one was driving halfway to Dallas....

Yeah... Terminal C was weird and different. We were coming from 100 miles to the north, which meant my dad piled us in the car about 4.5 hours in advance.
