Chicken or Beef-Unfortunately you appear to have the "customer is the enemy" mentality all too common on many airlines (I hope I am wrong since you seem to work for CO). And the noise canceling headsets cancel engine noise, NOT loud talking FAs.

It seems as though a lot of CO FAs or just FAs in general have joined the boards.
Now every thread that has a valid complaint will have 20 replies that look something like, "Well you should be a better passenger instead of thinking you're better than everyone else". yippee. Hey, we aren't all bad :) And you are entirely correct about having valid complaints... we feel we have valid points as well though, that's all. This is a discussion forum for frequent fliers, which I'd say we definitely qualify for, haha. We all just need to work on understanding each other a little better so there is no animosity. Anyone else feel like singing around a campfire eating marshmellows? Or I could always round up some dinner rolls with turkey and lettuce :) |

I've just seen the conversations of FAs on other message boards and have an idea of what to expect ;)

There are always going sub-par travelers and FA's. I don't think any FA's that are sub-par would be posting on this board, and the same goes for sub-par travelers.
I am sure that there are far more sub-par customers then there are FA's, if for no other reason then sub-par FA's will get fired at some point. If you lock two people in a 737 F galley together they will talk to each other, (unless they totally hate each other). The flights are noisy and it's hard to sleep on them, hell that's why they call it a "redeye". We should have tolerance for both the passengers and the attendants. |
I myself have been guilty of the "passenger is the enemy" attitude; not so much really having that attitude, but certainly coming across like that in a post. Looking back, it's typically happened immediately following a negative experience on a flight or at a time when I was under a lot of stress due to my schedule. I've learned that this can be avoided by staying away from forums in general when I am in a bad mood (or when I'm drunk!), and also previewing everything I type before submitting.

I am sure that you find the majority of your FAs to be polite and respectful toward your needs.
I am sure that the majority of your crews have been "more than polite" and respectful to you and the other passengers. Unfortunately, you were unlucky in this situation. Next time ask politely for them to turn it down, we don't mind if you ask nicely. We are not out to piss you off and make you have a lousy time; we want you to have a good experience and continue to fly with us. Like I said, most crews that you will find will not be loud because we understand the purpose of a red-eye flight. But also be prepared for the worst case scenario, that will make you happier in the long run as well. ;)

I do agree with UncleBuck's last post, we are only offering suggestions to help you in the future. I want everyone who flies with me to have a pleasant experience, as do most of the people who fly for CAL. I am too young to be a bitter FA and too junior with the company to have that type of mentality...I apologize if my post came off that way. ;) |

This some what of a general statement but in reality it goes both ways. I have also read a lot of comments on how the F/as supposedly did not understand and how they didn't care, even thought they may have gone the extra mile to rectify any wrong doing . If they did not have the "we are not worthy" attitude they are just average. So I agree with uncle Buck 100%. One thing I learned is treat people with respect and you will get it back and if you don't then follow it up with the company and state your claim. Just because a F/a may have personal problems does not justify poor customer service. However just because I paid does not give me the right to treat f/as like hired help. |
I am literally afraid to approach FA's about much of anything negative these days. At midnight, my fatigue might be mistaken for hostility, which could get me arrested at the end of the flight.

Since you ranted I'll rant too. People who fly overnight who want to sleep should spend the $1.50 it takes to buy foam ear buds that once inserted in your ear canal block all sound around you. This also applies to the $10 it takes to buy one of those eye covers.

So after reading the company memo ;) in regards to joining FlyerTalk, I am happy to say "Here I am"!!
I would like to add my $.02 in regards to this topic. For one, and maybe many of you do not realize this, but we as crew also fly as passengers on flights quite often. I personally travel as a passenger on average weekly to go home. And I, like many of you have stated, have had crew that have been audible in the cabin. On the other hand, I am sure that I have been guilty of being one of those crew members. Sometimes you get lucky and you get to work with crew that you really click well with, and we "get out of control" with the level of our voice. Reading this thread, it seems to be making a mountain out of a mole hill. I think this is really a big mis-understanding, that does have a simple fix. Communication. We are very talented, however mind reading is not one of our talents. ;) If we are being loud, let us know!! I guarantee we are not being loud on purpose, and we will not bite your head off for letting us know. I hope this helps, and I hope to also bring further insight and information to many more threads to come. (and once we get this problem worked out, maybe we can move to real problems. Such as when you order a coffee, let me know if you would like milk and sugar ;):)) |
Non-TypiCAL F/A,
Thank you for your thoughtful and eloquent comments! And a warm welcome to Flyer Talk. |
Yes welcome to FT, your comments are much appreciated.
