CLE Elite Access / First Class Security Line Gone
Over the last couple weeks, I've noticed that CLE switched from, I assume, private ID checkers to TSA. With that change, they were no longer enforcing the Elite Access / First Class line. What's going on with that?
In fact, I find that even when there was an Elite line, they would redirect people to security line #6 which is always backed up and probably the longest of all the lines. |
Sweet....I hate that airport as is. Another reason not to fly to CLE.

I flew out of CLE on Sunday and when I asked where the elite line was I was told they are all the same line. I told her at IAH we have a dedicated elite section and she told me "this is Cleveland, and this is how we do it". I hate CLE to begin with and this is more reason. Another reason while a little off topic here is as I was walking through the terminal at CLE on Sunday night airport workers were in clusters talking to each other and every other word I heard was a cuss word. Not professional at all.

You hate CLE??? Have you ever flown through Newark?!?! Foul language will be the least of your worries!

Hard to believe that CO is letting an Elite Access security line disappear at one of their hubs and the one that they plan to grow most significantly for the next 2 years. Over on the TSS forum it is commonly repeated that he TSA just checks the people as they feed into the lines, but has nothing to do with how you get in line or who is in which line. This seems like something CO should resolve with the airport authority in short time.

went through 11-11 and back 11-15
The elite security line is located at the C-Gates as far to the left (facing the ticket counters as you enter the terminal) as you can go.
There is a sign about waist high. It is opposite from the way it used to be. The elite line until very recently was the entrance closest to the ticket counters...now it is the one further away. It can be faster to go through security at the B-gates (in the middle of the terminal). There is a monitor in the center that gives you estimated wait times at each security location. If there is more than a 10 min difference between C and B, I will use B even though there is no elite access. TSA is TSA and will do what they want where ever they are. I noticed that no matter where I go they are 5 times slower than the folks they replaced, and I cant figure out why. And all you haters are welcome to not fly through Cleveland, It will make it easier for me to navigate....enjoy IAH and EWR. |
Flew from CLE twice last week.
Both times the Elite line was active/manned. Only ONCE this year did I enter through the C shoe carnival when the elite line was not active. That was because the TSA was having a bar-b-que outside between the terminal and parking structure (near where the limos park). When I walked across the pedestrian bridge I noticed smoke coming from below. I looked down and saw two grills cooking (whatever) and probably 20 people wearing jacket with TSA printed on the backs. |
Wow, I feel sooooo secure now that TSA is checking my ID. I mean, their reading and picture viewing skills must be so much better than everyone else's.
I had a guy stare at my license for about four minutes while standing in the usually quick security line at IAH E. |
Yep... no problems at CLE with Elite security - other than those pointed out by Hartmann and the reading skills...
The CLE security maze is not the best, but I have yet to be in an airport where it is really well thought out and efficient. (Come to ORD if you want to see some amazing TSA efficiency... NOT). Overall, I'm glad I get to fly out of CLE. I hope that those of you who have had bad experiences there will give it another shot. It's really not that bad. :) |
The elite line is Terminal A and B.
If C is congested, 90% of the time walking down to A will get you through almost no line at all. Plus on the way you get to peek at B and see if its worth trying. |

I will be traveling to CLE for the holiday and will verify that the elite security line at the entrance to C is operating normally.
