Travel Certificates

Starting Nov 12 the residual amount of a travel certificate can be applied towards future travel until it is depleted or the expiration date has been reached. Excellent news. :)

Ugh I JUST redeemed TWO of them last week...

Scott6067 Nov 7, 2007 12:33 pm

Does this mean that a travel certificate that was received before the Nov. 12the date will be able to have residual value or only those certificates that are issued after Nov. 12th?

Hi Scott6067, the answer is yes. The new residual value rule will apply to all active, unredeemed certificates, including those issued prior to Nov. 12th. Thanks as always for your feedback - it clearly makes a difference.

This is indeed great news. ^ to CO.

Great news, thanks for the news. Thanks Scott! Next time around (on improvements) I'd love to see a situation where I could use multiple VDB certs for a single ticket. Only way to do it now is 2 - one way tickets and sometimes the one way fare isn't half the cost of a RT, so not a good deal.

Does anyone know if this will apply to cancelled reservations also? I will need to cancel a non refundable res and the rules state the non refundable amt remails non refundable but can be applied to one ticket. Will this new rule apply to this situation also?

Yes, that would be nice if you could combine certificates, like you can with Hertz.

Woohoo!! No more negotiating for multiple smaller value VDB certs nor saving up for the "right time" to use one to make sure that I get the best value for it. They are much more fungible now ^^ and just in time, as I picked up another $250 VDB coming home from Seattle last week

Very cool, thank you!

In the past I'd always had to book two RTs on one ticket to get around this. Now I can just book like a normal person. ^

Glad to find this post. I was in the process of obtaining a travel certificate last night from a cancelled trip, and the Res Agent did not know of this new rule. So I did not go ahead with it as I was really unhappy with the possibility of losing several hundred dollars on a travel certificate in the future.

Thank you CO Insider for the information and for listening to your customers.

OrlandoFlyer Nov 8, 2007 7:12 am

CO Insider, I spoke to Res today again today and they were unaware of this new rule. Can you please provide a link on your web-site or where the reservations agents can look to verify this new rule?

Thank you.

burghboys Nov 8, 2007 7:55 am

Have the res agent check the airport service bulletin for customer service for Nov 6. Its all there.

Hi OrlandoFlyer, as with any new policy change, it may take a little time for this new policy to fully circulate to our front line. The technology, however, is automatic. Starting on Nov. 12th, if you partially redeem a travel certificate, the remaining balance will automatically be left for that PIN code and may be applied toward another ticket.

it would make a lot of sense along with this change.. to let you fold ETCs into the TravelBank account. Just dump them in one place.
