Lessons from an AA flight
Yesterday I had to fly AA for the first time in years because of a last-minute business meeting in Dallas (direct flight from DCA-DFW... AA :( ). Despite the long list of things-I-hate-about-AA, there was this one thing that I really liked...
Getting to DFW for my flight home, I realized everything was delayed because of the storm. I also noticed that an earlier flight back to DCA was now "in reach" because of the delays, and I quickly added my name to the stand-by list (I was #20!). Then I looked up to the flat screen monitor above the gate... The screen showed the entire stand-by list in order, as well as the upgrade request list in order, as well as weather and flight time to destination, food (or lack of) that was going to be served on board, and information on the aircraft. THAT would be cool to have on CO flights... |
Indeed. ^

I, too, would like to see such a feature at CO gates. It certainly would cut down on the number of elites who cue up before every flight to ask whether their upgrades have cleared, thereby making the gate agents more efficient.

What? You guys mean expensive plasma screens above each gate is better than the dot matrix printouts taped to the side of the gate podiums? :p
Seriously, yes, CO does need something like that. At least at IAH/EWR/CLE. |
yeah, this was discussed at the DO. i forget if larry mentioned it during his Town, but i am pretty sure scott referenced that cool things such as this were in the works.

This would be a very cool feature indeed. I've always been jealous of other carriers that have it. Shoot, even American Eagle has it at their little remote terminal in LAX.
Maybe it's the conservative business model of CO that waits for others to try out new technology/concepts first (inflight entertainment/internet/power, premium seats/suites, monitors at the gates etc). I guess that can be considered smart but for once I want the new stuff first. |

CO should get LCD panels, not plasma. DL's plasmas have big-time burn in issues.

Hi Jade_BR, this has been a popular customer request (especially here on FlyerTalk) and we agree. What I can share at this time is that we have some very nice improvements in the works that'll make our flight and upgrade standby lists more transparent to our customers. This project will kick off in 2008, and you can expect more details about our implementation once we get closer. Thanks as always for your feedback.
