Starpoint conversion to continental airlines
Hello all,
I had posted this with no response in the starwood forum, thought somone here might be able to help me? I was wondering - since *wood went 2:1 on their continental transfers, how that affects the 5,000 mile bonus. For example, if I transfer 20,000 starpoints, will I get: 1. 15,000 onepass miles (20,000 at 2:1 and 5,000 at 1:1) 2. 12,500 onepass miles (20,000 at 2:1 and 5,000 at 2:1) Thanks! |
Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but including the Starwood bonus (for transfers of 20,000 SPG points or more):
A transfer of 20,000 SPG points + 5,000 SPG bonus points = 12,500 CO miles |
I couldn't imagine turning SPG points into CO Miles. SPG points are like gold!

It is all moot. Transfer via Amtrak and you will get 1:1.
|
Pbarnette is right, if you want to change starpoints into Onepass miles, transfer to Amtrak first, then to CO. There is no 5000 bonus to transfer to Amtrak, however, and the transfers between Amtrak and CO are 1:1.
Be careful though, Amtrak limits how many points you can transfer into another program at 25000 per year unless you are an elite in their program. So at best, you can turn 25k starpoints into 25k Onepass miles per year. For the record, I believe you get 12500 miles for 20000 starpoints if the relationship is 2:1. |

When you transfer 20000 starpoints to the airline program, SPG will deduct 25000 starpoints from your account first, then add 5000 starpoints as bonus to your account. They are not adding 5000 airline miles. Thus by this logic you will get 12500 CO miles. |

for every 20,000 Starpoints you transfer, we'll add 5,000 bonus Starpoints This means they deduct 20,000 from your account, add 5,000, then convert 25,000 to miles, which would be 12,500 at 2:1. |
Thanks all very much for the responses!

Below is from my statement on my transfer to AA. AIRLINE TRANSFER BONUS Apr 24, 2007 5000 AADVANTAGE FLYER MILES Apr 24, 2007 -25000 Perhaps the order is: - add 5000 starpoints to the account first, - then deduct 25000 starpoints. At the end the balance is the same but record shows 25000 points deduction. |

Who cares how they "add" or "deduct"; it has nothing to do with the total number of points removed (from SPG) or added (to CO). |

Please read more of the thread before posting - this was already clarified in post number 2 and a "No" isn't in order.

Then I found drnp posted wrong information, thus (now I suggest you to read my post more carefully;)) I quoted that part and wrote "No." to that specific wrong information. Apparently, drnp seems to edit and corrected his/her original post. The rest is just additional information. If you don't care, (I don't care much either), that's fine. |
Maybe this is dumb question, but does the 2:1 transfer affect the 'nights and flights' awards, where you get 50,000 miles and 5 nights hotel accommodations for 60/75k?
If I directed my nights/flights award to CO, would i get my 5 nights and only 25,000 CO miles? |

I just did the transfer to Amtrak and I DID get the 5,000 mile bonus. Thanks to all for your help!

Sorry Pfor- yes, I my first post was wrong (said it would convert to 15000 instead of 12500). Dont know what I was thinking when I was typing. I didn't realize it until I looked in the thread again 15-20 mins later and read my post. I quickly edited my post to put the correct amount.
I should have just created a new post. My apologies to the OP. Thanks for catching it as well Pfor. |
