Specify different fare class for return leg of RT flight
I know this was discussed not too long ago, but I can't seem to find the thread when I searched.
I would like to book a roundtrip flight with just the return leg in Y. The outbound is in an ERJ and I'd rather not pay for Y upgrade for both legs if I can only sit in F on the return.
Any thoughts?

Book it as two one ways? Or call the web support desk and tell them what you want. I don't think you can do this online.

Click on Advanced Search and you'll be able to specify a different class of service on each leg of your roundtrip.

Here's a link to the thread I started back in August that kind of relates to the same topic.
Unfortunately, I never figured out how to do it all online. But Xyzzy's advice works great:
Hopefully there's a fix in the works to allow this to be done without operator intervention.

Price the ticket with the flights you want. Use the "pay with cash" option to reserve, call the web support desk and ask them to change the fare class as you wish. Then purchase via the web site. It's fairly easy and you still get 100% EQM.

I've put both fares in the specific fare box, separated by a comma, i.e. "L,T". IIRC it worked...

Follow the advice of mine that someone quoted above. Reserve and then call the web support desk. They are very accommodating and will understand exactly what you want to do.

You can't do what you want to do online. The website won't allow it.
You can specify cabin (Coach or First/BusinessFirst) for each individual flight but you cannot specify fare class if your cabins do not match for all flights.
In other words, as soon as you select First/BusinessFirst for any flight in your itinerary, the website will throw errors if you then say "Specify Fare Class" and enter the Coach Fare Classes you are looking for, e.g. "Y, H, K, B, N, O". Only if all segments are in coach can you specify classes in coach. Alternatively, if all segments are in First/BusinessFirst, you can enter "Z, C, J, R, F", etc. and the website will process your request.
To mix & match Coach with First/BusinessFirst on specific fare classes, you have to call CO to do it. Keep in mind that the ticket will be considered purchased via a reservation agent and you will potentially earn 50% EQM (for NW WP) on some fare classes.

This is NOT true if you reserve and call the web support desk (800.300.1547) to make the desired changes. You can then either have them process the purchase or use the web site to purchase the held reservation. If you do either of these, you will still get 100% EQM for an online purchase. You will not, however, if you call either the main reservation number or the elite line to process your purchase.
