No Elite Tagging
The only thing is that on your return, if you are Elite, the HA agent had no way other than putting a HA first class bag tag on (which I dont think that CO recognizes), to designate the conecting bags as Elite Access Priority Bags. I know half of the time it doesnt mean anything anyway...but if you can on your outbound, be nice to the TA and try to snag a few extra blue Elite Access bag tags for your return.

Could the OP stop by the CO counters in OGG, and if open, take a few of these tags there as well? |

I've never tried to get extra bag tags....I suppose that this could work from OGG, but I (and I think the OP) was flying from non-CO airports (a la LIH or KOA). Does anyone have an experience trying this? Are they sticklers when it comes to ponying up those tags?? |
Thank you for all of your help - one final question.
Is 'Island Air' associated with Aloha Airlines? I ask because I want to know if I go with them if I will be able to interline my bags all the way to LIH from EWR. Thanks! Edit: Nevermind - I just reread the post by CO Insider and realized that I can in fact do that. |
Extra Elite Access Tags
I flew to HNL on CO and connected on to another island on HA.
On the mainland, I checked my bags through to my final destination. While I was doing so, I reminded the agent to tag my bags with Elite Access tags (which she did upon reminding.) I then asked her if I could have 2 tags for my return so that the HA agents could tag them. She said sure... and gave me a stack of tags (20+). I'll use them when I return to the mainland via HA and will let y'all know how the agents use them. I am flying HA in 1st, so they usually throw their own red first class tags on the bag tags... so I presume they'll use both tags when I return. |
Grabbing extra elite tags makes sense, espescially when checking in with a partner. I also think it would make great sense to give them to GAs for those times when you need to gate check a bag.

Go to the Hawaiian Air website. They were offering some real cheap interisland airfares, but I dont know when the deal expired. Also, I wouldnt be in a hurry to jump right to Kauai. It's worth a day+ on Oahu to stop at Pearl Harbor, see Waikiki and drive up through the pineapple fields to the North Shore to see Haleiwa and the surfer-dude beaches, which should be rocking in Nov
