CO split my itin into 2

Currently on a trip to Europe, through EWR-DUB, and trying to check my return flight. My confirmation number doesn't work with my name, only my girlfriend's. I call them up.. they split us into two seperate itineraries, so now I can't move her into preferred seating / etc.

I know they can't put them together, and I know WHEN they split them - we flew on an earlier flight from home-EWR due to weather concerns of our original flight - so we both went standby on the earlier flight. WHY did they split it into two?

I would be surprised if they were split into two separate itineraries unless a request was made to do so. It's my understanding that, even with Plat status, you don't get preferential seating for another passenger. NW affords this benefit; CO does not. You could try calling and see what the CSR does, but it's at the discretion of the person with whom you speak. Otherwise, you'll have to make the request at the airport.

I don't believe you're right here - I've reserved bulkhead / exit row seats many times for me and a non-elite passenger travelling with me on the same PNR - never had any issues at all.

You're reiterating what I said. :) You have to ask. It's not automatic. The answer could be no.

You can absolutely get someone else elite seating, even if they are not on the same PNR. All you need to do is call and ask.

As for why you were split, my guess is that your flying standby had them put each of you on your own so they could process it.

You can also (or could on the old site) add someone else's PNR to your online account and access preferred seating.

Sorry, I should have made it clearer. Never had to call at all, just picked seats straight from the selector on the website.

if you are logged into your account on co.com, you can access anyone's record using the PNR and their last name. you can then move them to the premium seats.

you do not have to be on the same itin.

i do it for friends and family all the time.

Problem is, I don't have a co.com account, my status is with NWA :(

Did you have a domestic segment that qualified for Elite upgrade? If so, if you answered Yes to request an upgrade at checkin, I believe that splits the record.
