Anyhow, there is no such restrictions for Safeway earning UA or AS miles. Then again, I'd much rather have ShopRite's lower NJ food prices and no miles than what I pay for groceries at Safeway in NorCal with the few miles Safeway throws at us. ;)

Sorry I didnt mean to infer that CO was doing this.

Just wanted to give those who shop there especially if they do so for the Miles, that its gonna be alot harder to earn the miles then it was till now.

Yep SR is 1 of the lowest price wise, and its not only Safeway, I get sticker shock in any supermarket when Im in LAS,PHX or Cali. although Food for Less helps out but they are limited in what Im looking for

This was brought up last week, I think.

It seems to me that one way to get around this would be to buy SR gift cards and present your PricePlus card. At least this way you may get to $1K in spending each quarter, perhaps...

Another thing I do is order the same Price Plus card (with the same number to which your OP acount is linked) for my parents and my parents' friends (who really don't care if they earn any points as long as they get the discounts). This is another way to take full advantage of this program.

I can earn 500 miles for staying in a hotel one night. Why would I go out of my way at all to buy gift cards, etc. for 500 miles per quarter? The answer: I wouldn't!

I agree and am happy with both Shoprite and Continental every time I see the miles post!

This is bad news for me. My monthly average spent in ShopRite this year was about $250, and the monthly 125-mile deposit was great to keep my wife's OnePass account active.

I'm also shopping more these days at Wegman's because they have a much better selection of organic produce (the more I read about pesticides the more I'm willing to pay the premium for organic). I might have bumped into a few of you there since I also shop in Bridgewater, NJ.

I didn't know the program had changed. I've been getting miles from Shop Rite for quite some time, but I never really kept up with how much it adds up to. Mrs. CS does all the grocery shopping (at Bridgewater Shop Rite - looks like she may have run into some of you).

Just did some quick checking of past online statements. Prior to this year, 250 miles per month was the most common for me. 375 was the highest month and 125 was the lowest. To-date in 2009, I have three entries: 566, 218 and 309. In total, in the past two years (as far back as the online statements are available), I've earned 6,093 OP miles from this program. Not too shabby for doing something we'd be doing, anyway. :)

Same here, and I love shop-rite's low prices and decent selection. It's no Wegman's/Whole Foods, but it suffices.

Having said that, I don't eat enough to support the spend per quarter, so it will be a stretch to keep earning miles that will actually post. It was a nice bonus, since I would've shopped at SR anyway.

And I suspect that's the reason the bonus is essentially going away. Almost nobody would alter their behavior for it.

So true....won't impact my shopping habits one iota.

Similar in many respects to Upromise, where you link your store cards to Upromise and occasionally get a few pennies thrown at you for buying "participating" products. I try not to turn down free money so I link my cards, but the fact that a brand "participates" doesn't alter my shopping choices.

And, just like Shoprite and CO, the manufacturers ultimately realize that these miniscule rewards don't drive any real loyalty, so they scale back their participation.

I might be one of the rare birds. While I don't dramatically alter my grocery shopping behavior based solely on FFP miles, I have been steering some of my business away from SR since the program change. Instead of paying a few bucks more on some items at SR, I look for the lowest prices anywhere. It also helps that there are multiple grocery stores on my commute, so that I don't need to go out of my way to save some money. Having said that, I doubt SR will notice an impact with this change (other than paying CO less for the miles!).

Time to post?

I have about 14700 miles in my OP account and I'd like to buy into F on SFO-EWR in late August (in H atm, so just 15k miles and no cash). If I've been enrolled in the ShopRite program and hit the minimum spend by 6/30, will the SR miles post to OP in time for me to have a decent shot at the upgrade? Or should I just do some other stupid non-flying mile accrual to get them faster, like a ShopOnePass merchant...or another idea?

Thanks!
