One of the Plat benefits I appreciate is being able to put up to 70 lbs. in a suitcase without having to pay extra. It lets me make trips with only one suitcase. Yesterday I was on a CO flight from SAN-LAX-HNL. The SAN-LAX flight was coded with a CO # and I received CO miles, but it was actually an American flight. My suitcase weighed 66 lbs and AA required me to pay the $25 fee. I asked the ticket agent if they didn't allow the extra weight allowance since I was flying on a CO ticket and she looked at me like I had two heads. I know this isn't a CO problem, but I guess I just wanted to vent over having to pay an extra $25 for a forty minute flight. I wish that if CO is going to use other metal they would try to insure reciprocity.

We had to do something similar once flying AQ-DL-DL. With elite on DL we could have up to 70lb. but AQ had a 50lb. limit. So we had to transfer some stuff from one bag to another upon check-in w/ AQ to prevent paying the feee. No big deal really since the overweight bag was 52lb. I can see how this can be a problem though, but I don't think there is any solution to it. I'm not sure if AA waives the luggage fee even for their own elites.

Put the heavy stuff in your pockets or carry-on. Airlines still don't weigh customers + clothing. Always wear your heaviest shoes onboard.

Same thing on HA... it'd be nice if there were some reciprocity.

Same stuff applies to KLM and NW which are supposed to work in alliance. You check in with KL in AMS fly with NWA get 70lb per bag. You check in in USA and it is 50lb per bag.
My latest CO experience.
I was booked on CO: SEA-IAH-LGW and they changed me to NW: SEA-MSP-LGW.
NW demanded money for the overweight! Why when CO pays them to fly me and they are in same alliance? Should I bill CO for this, would this have an effect? It is not my fault CO's flight was delayed.

Another recent experience from SAT-IAH in which CO cancelled the flight (plane backed into a pick-up truck at IAH apparently) and booked us on AA. Although CO took our 65 pound bag, AA required us to pay $25 and then handed us boarding cards with lots of Ss on them.

I don't think any airline is obligated to provide the perks its codeshare partner provides to its elites. CO codeshares with DL, but DL doesn't offer EUA to CO elites. CO codeshares with VS, but they don't do squat for CO elites. And so on.
Also, I'm pretty sure KLM is now 2x50lbs for flights to/from North America (and 20kg TOTAL for intra-european flights--not sure about Europe-Asia).
Oh, and I'm sorely disappointed that this isn't another "fat people suck" thread.
