The Truth about IAH-HNL in BF

I have read numerous times recently how Continental now treat this flight like a normal domestic F flight as opposed to a BF flight. I have read stories on here about how you no longer have a menu, no longer get ice cream, how you no longer get salads, appetizers etc.

What a load of BS.

I flew IAH-HNL today on flight 73, and you got all of those things, and it was basically the same service I got the last time I flew it a few years ago, the only difference being no amenity kit.

Talk about misinformation spreading on here.

I think you have to be careful here. You flew CO73, which is the IAH-HNL flight. What people gripe and compain about is CO72, HNL-IAH. With its late departure (sometimes as late as 10:30 p.m. depending on the day), the meal service is scaled back and all the stories you hear here are true, depending on the time of departure (e.g., my SO had CO72 depart at 8:30 p.m. and received the full F experience).

I just arrived with Mrs martinplas on Co72 HNL to IAH and here is the data
1) paid 2800.00 each for D class Buisnessfirst tickets
2) Meal at departure was a warn nut which was stale, bowl of soup, and a warm turkey/cheese sandwhich with some small portion of potatoe salad and a small portion of mustard and one slice of dill pickle. Dessert cart followed with their sundays and liquer
3) breakfast was eggs, bacon sausage or cereal with coffee, tea service.
It definatly had no menu,no choice on entree, no amenitie kit and a very scaled back expieience.
I did enquire at the concierge at the PC in Hawaii prior to departure, as I had heard about this on this FT borard and CO 2 which departs at 7PM ish one hour earlier is a full meal service in BF ,not a snack. 830 PM is there cutoff time for meal service ,then it goes to snack ( translate junk) service.
I will add that the lack of all the food service courses did add some time to be able to sleep more on the overnight
If you want a more BF like expierience and not just a cushy seat ,them IMJ you should book CO 2

Pathetic excuse. :td:

Do they serve a "snack" in BF on flights to Europe that leave after 8:30pm.

They should just stop calling these BF flights.

i dont even think its a timing thing for CO. i think its what they can get away with.

the flights from IAH to GRU leave well after 9pm. i think 1030. we were served the complete deal. honestly it was too much. i was stuffed.

frankly im surprised CO still offers anything remotely similar to BF on their HI service.

no one else does, and when you price it on orbitz, they're all the same. you could take CO or HP to HI for the same price. which one would you pick?

CO doesnt even list HI flights on the BF menu page on co.com. im surprised they even have a concierge for the flight.

The BF menus to/from Hawaii are still available on CO.com, but it appears they removed the direct links to them...

Compared to normal int'l BF, it's the same seat and IFE, and you get PC access, but no concierge, no amenity kit, a slightly scaled down menu, and (in my experience) a level of in-flight service a notch lower. Earlier this year they did have printed menus, but the FA asked for them back after we made our selections.

The reason it's still BF service is that it's hard to upgrade into. All other airlines use their domestic upgrade policies for HNL; CO uses their intl policy. So while full fare First Class (OK, Business Class in CO's case) may be the same, there are less upgraders on CO.

Also note that a paid First Class ticket (even discounted F) on UA allows one to ride in F on UA's three-class p.s. flights for 1/2 of the trip. That's even better service and seat that CO's BF. At least for 1/2 the flight.

BF flights to Europe serve a different crowd from the Hawaii ones. That is not to say that the BF flights to Hawaii shouldn't have a full meal, they should definitely.

I've had a lot of stale nuts and bread lately, its not cool.

NW and DL domestic upgrade policies do not apply for Hawaii.

True, but NW does not use their international upgrade policies for Hawaii flights. Otherwise, you would only be able to mileage upgrade out of Y and B. Thankfully!

Really? Interesting. Tell me more. They don't use their intl policies, do they? Something in between?

There is no policy of complimentary upgrades. For both DL and NW it's 7,500 miles for full coach (Y, B) fares and 15,000 on DL for B, M, H, Q or K fares and 17,500 miles on NW for other select coach fares (all but lowest).

People, come on! A true BF experience????? I mean, those B767 BF seats are horrible, so hard on your head and back, and you especially feel this on a long flight. I would much rather take AA as I find their Business Class seats to be more comfortable, and of course they feature a 60'' seat pitch.
