Just wanted to point out that CO is not the only carrier requiring the same fare code for rebooking flights due to Rita, from
http://www.united.com/page/article/0,6722,51359,00.html

For customers who have not begun travel: You may make one change to your travel plans without change fees or advance purchase requirement for the same itinerary. For a new itinerary, you may make one change without change fees. Rescheduled travel may be subject to higher fares if it does not meet original rule and booking codes restrictions or is a new itinerary.
This sucks because I have a United itn thats about to start 9/28, and their current web page says that only itns up to 9/27 can be changed at the moment.

IAH and Hurricanes Reply to Thread

I had a conference scheduled in AMA in a couple weeks, flying CO from PDX-IAH-AMA. The conference was cancelled due to the New Orleans situation, people staying in the convention center. The conference will not be rescheduled for Amarillo so I had to take care of my CO ticket. I called reservations and explained my situation and they waived the cancellation fee, but couldn't refund it due a non-refundable ticket, which is fine. I can use it up to one year. The reservation agent had to check on my situation about the cancellation fee, and came back and gave me the good news! I'm pleased and look forward flying CO in the future. Normally fly DL but they no longer fly to AMA and I had no other good option. Thanks CO!

EUA is Working!?!?!

Well, I guess that they expect to be back to normal next week. I've already been EUA'd for both my Wednesday IAH-DCA and the Thursday return.

Not sure if I'll actualy make the trip, but it gave me a chuckle between Rita updates...

Doesn't look like much of anything weatherwise is going to happen at IAH tonight. Seems almost certain that ops could resume Sunday morning. Indeed, I wonder if CO regrets cancelling everything for tomorrow afternoon.

You never know with hurricanes. We'll have to wait for word as to what happens around Pt. Arthur.

Yeah Dude, that hurricane was a real dud, wasn't it?

Are you serious? CO did what it had to do based on the forecasts at the time. And, if you'd turn on the TV and look at the forecast track of this thing, combined with the size of the storm, you'd see that IAH is still going to have some very rough weather tomorrow even though the airport won't be sustaining a direct hit. The storm has not yet moved far enough inland for the north side of Houston to be experiencing bad weather, but several hours from now it's going to be a different situation.

As of 3am Houston time, landfall close to Lake Charles, LA and relatively little effects in Houston so far. Minimal rain and wind is far less than we see in the typical summer afternoon thunderstorm. Outer bands could bring some more rainfall but we dodged this one. I hope IAH ops get back on track for Monday or even Sunday.

iahphx Sep 24, 2005 5:14 am

Max wind gust at IAH was in the low 60s. Not much happened there (obviously different in Pt. Arthur). Sometimes you get lucky. I'm sure they COULD operate this afternoon, but there's no way they could have been sure about that when they made the decision Thursday.

ryerflyer Sep 24, 2005 8:02 am

The issue isn't what's happening at IAH - it's the fact that CO would have to fly through or around Rita to get in and out of there.

Maybe by tomorrow things will have settled down enough to make losing a wing a bit less likely, but the CO and other airport employees who evacutaed are still going to take some time to get back home and back to work. They'll stick with the original plan.

Oh yeah, they can't change it now. I wouldn't be surprised to see the airport reopen this afternoon, though, when winds are likely to be back down in the 20s. Earlier television report of gusts in the low 60s at IAH may have been inaccurate. NWS says it only reached the mid 50s.

DANGEROUS HURRICANE RITA!

At least the good side is that Houston scraped by - it could of been much worse! ^

I'm just breathing a sight of relief. After my mom and all of her brothers and sisters rode out Katrina in New Orleans, I've been sweating for the past few days 'cause my dad and sister are in West Houston.

Just got the call. Nothing more than wind... Everyone's OK.

Both AUS-IAH and IAH-GSO are still a go for Monday as far as the CO website is concerned. I'll call customer service tomorrow to verify.

On the news radio in houston they just interviewed Center Point Energy and they said that 500K are without power and that the worst power outages are in north Harris County...in the Greenspoint and Humble areas....this is right by IAH. Now of course it is unclear whether this includes the airport. Of course, it is unclear when that will be cleared up. However, I seriously doubt that the airport will be open Sat afternoon...Sunday probably. Now the lack of fuel could impact those who are trying to get to work at iah. In general they are encouraging people not coming back from out of town just yet they realize that many will. They just say be ready to arrive and there is no gas and no electricity. It is clear from my hotel here in SAT that many are packing up and heading back. I, however, am staying as I just heard on the radio that the town 5 miles south of me is 80% without power and the mayor there is concerned about having gas for police cars and fire trucks.
