EUA email notification-after check in

so there i was, standing at the LAS e-ticket self-check in machine at 5am (i actually arrived 15-20 minutes earlier, but the terminals & CO desk were dark), when out pop my boarding passes. i had to do a double-take on my seat assignments, because my seat assignment for las-iah changed from 7D to 4A!! what? who died & left me an upgrade on that route?? i had only received one email notification the day before & that was for the IAH-SAT segment!

well, needless to say, i took the seat & ran with it. upon checking my email when i got home, lo & behold, i *DID* receive an email notification of the upgrade.....six minutes AFTER i had checked in. go figure.

so, it is possible for a lowly silver to get upgraded on a heavy-elite route, such as las-iah.

The upgrades and the emails don't happen at the same time.

One night I was booking a flight on continental.com within the upgrade window. Before completing the booking I got an error message telling me to call CO about the reservation. On the phone I was told that I had been EUA'd, which may have triggered the errror message. The email didn't go out until over three hours later.

The EUA emails are generally pretty timely (within about 20 mins or so). However, when the run the boatload of them at night, there is often a backlog.

With that said, if you get your upgrade in the final EUA run (about 3 hours prior) it is at an oddball time, as you can often be en route to the airport. Add a few minutes for the EUA notification, and your notification often comes at checkin. Moreover, it often happens to me while in the air, en route to a connecting city.

I had a similar experience as well, I flew LAS-IAH-LGA, but the EUA failed on both segments. Got upgraded last minute LAS-IAH, and the EUA must have gotten me as well for the IAH-LGA portion sometime enroute to IAH because the agent in IAH said I was already upgraded (granted no availability/upgrades at time of checkin in LAS or night before doing online checkin) automatically. And arriving into LGA and checking my email, there was a message from the EUA for the IAH-LGA, so same deal as you.

Yes this has happened to me...one instance which I can recall was I had checked in for my flight from EWR and was added to the Upgrade list. I went through security and went to the Presidents Club.

I was just sending & receving emails, when the email message came that I had been upgraded. I went over to the pclub counter and just asked the desk agent to print me out a new boarding pass as I apparently received an upgrade notice via email!!
