CO to install velvet ropes

CO today announced that velvet ropes will be installed between first and coach cabins. Should help to slow all the coach usage of the FC restrooms.

The one time I flew BA, they did the same thing, along with the curtain. Now that curtains are gone on US aircraft, it sounds like a good idea here.

Velvet ropes? that is just awesome! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif

Not only will that keep the riff-raff out of the first class loo, it'll also be a major deterrent to suicidal terrorists who's sponsoring organizations ain't got the scratch to buy their martyrs first class tickets to paradise and the multitude of awaiting virgins.

This is great news! I sent in a comment card about this very subject after my last HNL/KWA flight. I'm going out again this Monday...I wonder if it'll be installed by then?

Gee - CO really listens sometimes!

NonRev99: So where did you see/hear/read this wonderful bit of news? Nothing on CO website and I could find nothing in news items on std search engines. Hope it's true!

Yes! Good call CO http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/thumbsup.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/thumbsup.gif

But couldn't the velvet rope be possibly used as a weapon on the plane? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Oh well... at least there'll be less Y pax crowding the F cabin.

Velvet huh? Maybe it should be a ball and chain. Could be useful in dealing with terrorists, air rage incidents, and those unruly steerage pax.

Puts a little bit more class into flying up front. Still no substitute for the curtains, I liked sealing off the front from the rest of the "riff-raff". Still a nice move I doubt many other airlines will copy.

Just how will this rope stop Y traffic from walking up and unhooking one side of the rope to use the head? Curtains didn't stop this. Not in this world.

It probably won't even be necessary to unhook the rope: I expect any physically fit coach passenger will be able to either hurdle over or limbo under the new velvet rope! Sounds like a good candidate for a new Olympic event.

I saw this on Varig earlier this year. Not exactly a velvet rope - more of an orange ribbon. But, it served it's purpose. Of course, I was on the 'wrong' side of the rope... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Hey but what if we want to go commiserate with the "riff-raff," like maybe our family in the steerage....but only to discover we are roped in to first class "jail"?

jetcity405 Jul 25, 2003 10:51 am

also couldnt that be a safety hazard?
