You keep your family in steerage? Shaem on you! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Why would you want to do something like that??

I can confirm this is true. It has only been released to employees via our daily newsletter. I think this is great and hope others follow. On a recent flights from EWR-LGW-EWR the amount of people coming into the BizFirst cabin to use the lavs amazed me. The F/A's were getting annoyed and were telling pax to write the company and ask to reinstall the curtains. One coach pax tried to use the bathroom on the left hand side but was blocked by the F/A's serving food and attempted to cross through some seats in which pax where eating. Almost knocked the man's wine into his lap! There was a small arguement and he was sent in back.

I think this is a great move though to install these.

I was just thinking about this...

Why doesn't CO make the coach pax wear shock collars? Then they could put one of those underground electric fences in the isle between F and Y and all problems would be solved...right? NW could do this too...it would substitute for not having any IFE on domestic flights.

"Just how will this rope stop Y traffic from walking up and unhooking one side of the rope to use the head? Curtains didn't stop this."

It won't "stop" anyone, but it's better than nothing there at all. It's there to remind, not to stop. Nothing between FC and coach is apparently an open invitation for everyone and his brother to walk on up. The FAs also have to help control the situation by politely reminding folks that the FC can "is for the exclusive use of our business class passengers", in CO's own words. Even if there were a closed door there, some noodle would march on through it. Nothing's foolproof.

Aren't there a bunch of CO used, non-bulletproof cockpit doors laying around that we could use instead of the rope?

Personally, I would prefer COLORED BEADS hanging from all thresholds - I'm surprised trendy Virgin doesn't do that already!

I guess I now have a new use for my 'Papa Bear Oversized School Safety Scissors With Round Tips'. I hope the TSA is no longer confiscating those http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

This is very true. A local radio morning show personality here in the Tampa area (MJ, for those of you in the know) went on vacation a few weeks ago. He was flying CO in coach, and tried to use the F lav. A FA tried to stop him apparently, and now he's all bent out of shape about it, spouting off on his show repeatedly at how CO is evil, and threatening to report them to the FAA.

The news was announced in the Continental Daily News Update, on the employees internal website.

At a mear 6'2 I prefer the just behind FC on a 757 since I can stand up without bumping my heaad like the FC lav in front.

The exclusive lavs on 737s or 757s don't add any value to me - Give me a 767 or 777 then keep the riff raff in the back

"Theater-style ropes are being installed on Continental aircraft to separate first-class and coach, replacing the curtains that once served as barriers.

The change will mean less interference with first-class service, said Gordon Bethune, chairman and chief executive officer of Houston-based Continental.

Continental will start installing the ropes during the second half of August and it will take several weeks to complete, spokesman Dave Messing said."

Fctsty, how could you have left the best two word phrase I've seen in a while out of your quote above:

<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">If anything, this is meant to protect the lavatory integrity of the cabin. Even a small rope would help preserve it."</font>

Funny! But it seems the issue is SERVICE CLASS INTEGRITY rather than LAVATORY INTEGRITY - the issue is the integrity of FIRST CLASS benefits being taken by COACH CLASS passengers rather than the integrity of the lavatory as a lavatory - unless passengers are planning to use the first class lavatory as a snack room or smoking room!

NJDavid Aug 5, 2003 3:54 pm

I suppose lavatory integrity is the only level of integrity Gordo-the-Liar has. In describing him, I find that to be very appropriate.

Gordo, a born liar, language in the gutter, integrity in the toilet.
