Split WBC reward/Does patience pay?

I presently have a WBC reward rez for my wife and I...standard going over and all they have is RuleBuster coming back. Does it pay to hold off on ticketing as long as possible and to keep calling back to see if seats went to the standard inventory? I'd really like to save 80K miles.

PS - Thanks again to Germanfflyer for the rail help!

You have a better option:

WAITLIST, WAITLIST, WAITLIST!!!

Well, at least you can do that on NWA. I did that before. And guess what? The standard award seats never opened up!

DTW-MNL rulebuster in the middle of December
MNL-DTW standard at the beginning of January

Note that USA-MNL traffic is quite notorious on December/January. Even their deeply discounted J/C/Z class fares are blacked out from the middle of December onwards.

In my situation, I waitlisted for DTW-MNL for the standard award. Had something opened up, I would have had to pay a $35-$50 redeposit/reissue fee, but I would have saved a lot of miles.
