Free Drinks?
I read on this site (and I think the Delta post) that someone posted "all international flights have free drinks".
Is this true, or only in first class? I guess that the Caribbean is not considered international because I have never received free drinks on a CO/US/AA or DL going to the islands. I will be going to CCS (then to PMV) in Nov. This is my first international flight ever to another continent (other than the carib islands or Hawaii). What type of aircraft is the CO from EWR>CCS? Are there free drinks on CO and on DL coach? Any thoughts or suggestions? |
Yes, free drinks on int'l flights is common. That said, the "currency coupons" that get you a free drink (or headset, etc) are a dime a dozen.

The following was posted in the Yahoo CO board:
Food but no drink <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2"> Well, CAL seems to have found something to cut. Effective next month, no more unlimited free booze in int'l coach. You'll probably get one free drink with dinner. Frankly, this makes some sense. Some of those int'l yields are pretty low these days. I think a lot of folks booze it up for the novelty. Let 'em pay for it. </font> [This message has been edited by Old Gold (edited 10-20-2001).] |
Even 6+ hour flights to Alaska don't have free booze in coach. It's funny how often airlines don't consider ANC a domestic destination when it suites them (i.e. award redemption levels and offers) but will always consider it a domestic destination when it comes to no free drinks!
Oh well, less booze generally means less trouble. |
I guess Senator Feinstein in California got her way with threatening airline executives to cut down drinks or else. What will we see next? Niche market airlines as those who can afford it, will fly Midwest Express domestically and AA or UA internationally based on the reason of food and drink.
As each cut comes along, it is a huge risk because you have no guarantee that other airlines will do the same, thus setting you at a disadvantage. ------------------ "Fly me to the moon and let me earn alot of miles." |
How many drink coupons are permitted on a flight?
|
As many as you can use before seeming drunk, I guess.
|
Ok, But you do not have to have a coupon right?

Is it clear that this new no more free drinks in coach policy has actually been instituted?

I just talked to WE-CARE (to voice my concern re. HoKeY fares, which I have not heretofore done) and confirmed that beginning November 1, there will be NO, ZERO free drinks systemwide on any flight. I have stayed out of all the CO-bashing, mainly because I am Infinite elite, so why would I ever bother to change airlines? But, CO has taken away so many benefits, there is now no choice. There is a bigger issue at play here: What the heck is up with Gordon and the management team? The corporate strategy decisions they are making are contrary to common sense and certainly against all of his previous blaterings ("you can make a pizza so cheap, nobody will buy it..."). I am going to toss out my copy of worst to first - Gordon was obviously insincere in his writings. <snip></font> |

OldGold,
Where is this Yahoo CO board? I can't find it in the list of chatrooms. Is it somewhere else? |
