I was once told by an agent that the agent had to have a certain amount of "experience" before they were allowed to assign exit rows over the phone. She did not elaborate on how much "experience" was necessary. You would think that the agents on the "elite" lines would be more experienced, but maybe it is the training line. The worst agent I ever got was on the Gold elite line after a mechanical problem at PIT.

it was my understanding from reading this (joyous) forum that the "elite line" is, in fact, not a special line at all. just the regular line with a special phone number.
