I agree. I'd prefer to sit Exit Row in Economy. I got an exit row on an ERJ and a 737. With a full can of soda and the leg room, you can make your own first class out of that.

Well, I just called for exit row on 4 Jungle Jets flights. Segments 1 and 4, it was already taken. Segments 2 and 3, it was available, but she “couldn’t” put me in them because they were exit row. “Only a supervisor” can do that. Held for the supervisor who informed me that she couldn’t do it “over the phone”, only a travel agent can do it in advance, or I’d have to wait until day of travel at the airport.

Hung up (even told her that’s what I was going to do), and immediately called back. Agent said she couldn’t do it, but to hold on, and she’d get the supervisor. Agent came back a couple of minutes later, and said the supervisor had changed my seats to the requested ones, and I was all set.

While typing this, I went back and checked, and the seats were NOT changed. Called back, and was told by another agent that the reason they weren’t changed was because they were exit row seats and they cannot be pre-assigned. Refused to check with her supervisor unless all I wanted was to hear repeated what she just said.

Hung up, and called back a FOURTH time. Got a very friendly agent, however, she told me “there was nothing (she) could do”. After chatting with her for a while, she put me on hold and (on hold right now waiting for her to come back), and she said she talked to a supervisor and he put me in those seats after convincing him to do it. Refreshed the screen again, and viola’ the exit row seats are now mine!

Proof that persistence pays off.

I find it to be very spotty, but I was just now able to snag a considerabel amount of 16's on the 757's and 14's on the 738's for upcoming SFO MCO runs.

Just keep calling back.

Also, interesting to note that on SFO EWR 757 200's, there is no 1B or 1E! It apparently has been completely removed from the seat map according to two agents I talked to. For Sky M's or what?

Knit-In,

No, it was not a 737. It was a Jungle Jet.

After being top level elite for 7 years, I think I know the difference between a real jet and a jungle jet.

here in CLE, it's pretty easy to figure out...

CO plane = jungle jet

just about any other airline = real jet

CLE is not a CO hub anymore.

It is an ExpressJet Holdings, Inc. hub.

Well, just an update to my 4 flights on the Jungle Jet. Left on Sunday. When I checked in, I had seat 2A on the first segment, and seat 1A on the second. I asked if 1A had become available, but it had not. I asked about 2B (RJ135), and got assigned that. She informed me that as it was an ADA seat, that I might have to give it up if needed. No problem. When I got to the gate, I asked about the return on Monday. I had 1A on the first segment, and 3C (Yuk!) on the second. I was informed that 1A was available, but could not be assigned until day of departure as it was an exit row. I pointed out that I had it on the first segment, so obviously that was not true. Then she replies, “Well it says right here in your record that we shouldn’t give you exit row or bulkhead seats until day of departure.”

So, it appears that one of the three (I am assuming it was not the last one) reservation agents actually put this in my record!

Anyway, when I check in on Monday, 1A, 2B, and 2C are all taken. This is all about 4 hours prior to departure of that flight. (So much for only getting those seats on day of departure, AND while at the airport!)

So, for the first time in the 12 months I have been flying Jungle Jets, I did not have either 1A or 2B solely because I was not able to get them assigned at time of ticketing. And let me tell you… it sucked! There is no way I want to continue to fly Continental, (every flight out of my home town, and 2 of my major destinations are served solely by Jungle Jets), if I am unable to get these seats pre-assigned. Look, I understand that if I break my leg or something prior to the flight that I’ll have to be reassigned a different seat because I’m no longer eligible to sit there. So what’s the problem? I’m a Plat; I understand that, as I’m sure EVERY frequent flyer does. That’s why we were previously the only ones that could be pre-assigned these seats.

So, here’s my dilemma. Do I keep flying them knowing I will have to BEG to get these seats, or do I switch to another airline? (I can either switch back to NW where I can get great domestics upgrades and lousy attitudes, or switch to AA where I’m only 50K away from Lifetime Gold and sit in coach and get good attitudes.) Why should I subject myself to Jungle Jets AND lousy seats for 150K a year? I can live with the Jungle Jets, as long as I’m sitting in 1A. Otherwise, IT’S NOT WORTH IT!

I was thinking about this this morning when I got up. Does anyone know the REASON they made this change? And don’t tell me it’s just another one of CO’s “enhancements”. Somebody had to have a reason for this change, albeit not a very good one I’m sure, but a reason nonetheless. I’m curious to know what that reason was. What did they gain by making this “enhancement”?

no conceivable reason.

there is absolutely no harm in booking these seats ahead of time which is the practice of other airlines. if someone doesn't qualify, simply boot them out when they check in.

Well, I think I just figured out a way to get exit row seats assigned.

I have another 2-day 4-segment flight coming up in two weeks, all on Jungle Jets. I reserved the flights I wanted on www.continental.com, and put them on hold. Called the Platinum Elite Line, and told her that if I couldn’t get 1A on all four segments, I would not be flying Continental for this trip. Without too much (really almost none) discussion, she assigned me 1A on all 4 segments, at which point I completed the purchase.

So, it seems that if you’ve already bought the ticket, they’ll tell you that you’re SOL. But if you threaten not to buy it, they will relent. In other words, if they’ve already got your money they don’t care; but if it’s a matter of getting your money or not, they’ll give you want you want to get it.

At least that’s they way it appears based on this episode.
