skipping 2nd half of outbound leg

Have ticket from BUF to Laguardia via Cleveland. Want to get off for day in Clevland and catch return flight from Laguardia via Clevland home to Buffalo. Will they cancel itinerary when i don't re-board for 2nd 1/2 of outbound leg ?
If they will cancel 2 1/2, can i book another e-ticket outbound from Cleveland to Buffalo, throw in a Sat. night stay and use 1/2 of first ticket to get there and 2nd 1/2 of second ticket to get home.
Buffalo - Cleveland was $1,300.
Buffalo - LaGuardia via Cleveland was $500.
Neet to get out an back in same day. Am silver Elite with Continental - HELP ?

If you no-show for your connection, the balance of your itinerary will cancel.

You can't use the second half of a ticket before you use the first half.

Why are you flying to LGA when BUF-EWR is something like $98?

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but it sounds to me like you want to purchase a BUF-CLE-LGA ticket, with the return LGA-CLE-BUF, but you only intent to use the BUF-CLE legs? CO won't allow that to happen.

Anytime you miss a flight, CO will cancel the remaining downline flights in the PNR. I wouldn't waste the money on flying, IMO. It's only a 3 hour drive max from BUF to CLE.

For the first case, not getting on your connecting flight will cancel the rest of your itinerary.

The same can be said of your second proposal. If you don't show up in LGA, then your entire ticket is cancelled.

Buying nested tickets, which is sort of the other thing you propose is definitely something the airlines don't like. For example, it may be cheaper for you to buy one BUF-CLE and one CLE-BUF ticket, both with Sat. night stays. You may get away with it if you don't input your frequent flyer account into the itineraries, but if you do use a loyalty program they will pick up on it in a second.

Airlines call this GDS abuse and they are really starting to crack down on this.
