I just went to the counter at EWR. There was no line at all, so I could've arrived at the airport 45 minutes before departure and made it to the gate with no trouble. In any case, I didn't get the SSSS or anything. It was all just CO's inability to do kiosk or on-line check-in for me.

Continental just added the ability to check-in online for intl flights. You need to have check in once with an agent prior and had your passport swipe so its number is in the system...

If in the future you continue to have problems checking in online/at kiosks but don't get the SSSS, it's a sure sign that you are a TSA watch list victim. Been there, done that and keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't happen again.

Just make sure that you have a machine-readable passport.

I would suppose also EWR has them by now.

This is great after you have done it once. The kiosk has your passport number from you original scan and just asks verfitication of your number. The following intl checkins at the kiosk are simple.

OK so I am on a one-way tomorrow and got the dreaded This is not a boarding pass. for my ATL - EWR - SFO flights tomorrow. If I get SSSS'ed for my return flights (SFO-IAH-DTW-ATL) segments, will I be able to get a BP from inside the secure area (I am scheduled to have a 95 minutes between flights), or will I have to go all the way outside security to the CO ticket counter?

On a related question, how early can I do kiosk check-in at ATL? Would I be able to check-in there tonight, since I was able to do OLCI already?
