two segments for $10

this is a rather stupid question, as i think i know the answer. any normal person would think im crazy, but an FTer may find it a no brainer.

I acheive Gold status every year from segments. i live in new orleans, so segments come far easier than miles.

this year will be close. i do not want to fall to silver.

would you spend $10 and 5 extra hours of flying for two additional segments? instead of CO FC ont-iah-msy (4segs) i can go CO FC ont-iah-atl (4segs) and then NW FC atl-mem-msy (2segs)

If you have the time and think you'll need them, sure!

Also count the miles earned for the extra flying. IAH-ATL > IAH-MSY, so the difference there, plus the ATL-MEM-MSY segments will earn you more "valuable OnePass miles."

Before you do this keep in mind that not all NW fares count for segment credit on CO!

it would be a codeshare in Z class on both airlines, so i assume that z fares count for one segment each on NW and two segments each on CO.

A CO ticket on a NW flight in Z counts for 150% EQM and one segment credit/flight. Details here. If I had the 5 hours and was planning on the Z fare, I'd probably do it.

I, too, qualify on segments and have done extra ones in Y, so F is no brainer. Have fun!
