BWI-IAH upgrades?

I have read a lot of posts, although this is my first one.

I need to travel BWI-AUS within a month and I'm wondering what the likelihood of getting an upgrade on the BWI-IAH segment is. I am pretty flexible as to day of week and time of day. What are the chances of a silver upgrade on that?

I flew BWI-IAH on Saturday (11am flight) and got upgraded 3 hours before as a gold. Just recently became gold; the half-dozen or so times I flew BWI-IAH this year as sliver I only got upgraded once or twice. However, I was mostly flying on Friday afternoons, which I suspect are probably more competitive.

Can't say as silver but best bets from BWI check for 757's and 737-800's. They use them pretty regularly on that route. Try for mid-day and mid-week (tues-thursday). Good luck

I am not sure when you are flying but going to BWI on a Thursday from Austin via Cleveland and returning on a Sunday via Houston, the planes where half empty, upgrades where available 3 days prior to departure as a Gold and the one way ticket was about $125.00 including taxes. Good luck!

Aren't the CLE-AUS flights on ERJ's?
The fares are so cheap because SW flies BWI-AUS.

Make sure you avoid Thurs and Fri afternoon/evenings on BWI-IAH. Morning flights should be much easier.

Watch out for the 753 that goes between BWI & CLE - with the enhanced FC on it your EUA chance is substantially reduced.

I have done BWI-IAH a few times this year. It is a good route to do as a Plat. Usually on the morning flights, there are still several seats for Golds and Silvers. I have been EUA'd everytime but once. Avoid flying this on Friday afternoons. I got my upgrade on that Fri afternoon flight upon check in at the airport, no EUA in the box before that. There were only two seats left in First, for me and another Platinum. Your best chance is on the morning flight.
If you cant do that, then go for the 738 or you may want to try a 757 with 24 seats in First.

If your EUA doesnt come through even after check-in, be pateint. As of recently, CO seems to be holding seats back on this route.

I've flown IAH-BWI about 40 times in the last 3 years and received an upgrade every time except once. I always fly on an N fare basis or higher and almost always got the upgrade even as gold when my EUA window opened. A more deeply discounted ticket will have less of a chance at the upgrade unless you are a platinum.
