Elite Maximizer Bargain?

We all know that the elite maximizer topped out on Dec 31 (as market forces suggest it should have done) ... so, logically, the maximizer rate should be at an annual low today, right?

So ...

1) Anyone actually bought the maximizer today, and if so, what was the rate?

2) If not today, when? Any guess from the amateur economists out there as to the day of the year when the rate is likely at its lowest?

I looked today (clicking through the offer on a confirmed reservation) and was offered $730 for 3650 miles (20 cpm). Don't think they've reset the numbers yet.

Do reservations have to be on the CO web site to show this? I can't see it when I click through on UA.

I click award accelerator and only get an offer for RDMs.

I have found that the closer to departure date (except the last few weeks of the year) the less the purchase price was. I did see some this year that were way less then at the end of the year. It seems like its a case by case thing!

Yes -- only avail on CO site - don't know if it works for a code-share bought on CO site -- but it is available for CO metal bought on CO site ... it's NOT something UA ever implemented for it's own flights.

I had the offer on an award ticket that was only on South African in October.

Not only must you be viewing the reservation via continental.com, also, you must have your CO frequent flyer number attached to the reservation.

$300 for RDM and $2000 for 10000 EQM as of today in my reservation.

The elite maximizer rate generally remains steady from January thru October. It's towards the end of the year that the rate starts to creep up, and up, and up... :o We will see what 2012 brings.

It seems to be getting worse not better.

1,837 miles for $424.00

or

3,764 miles for $846.00 - 22.9 cents per mile. :D

I think the same lagged effect happened in the beginning of Jan 2011. Check back in a few days. I'll bet the price goes down significantly.

Blue Skye Jan 2, 2012 10:17 am

checked today for a flight i have on Wed. the rate was ~23cpm.

$221 for 7354 miles plus $1471 for the elite maximizer

was hoping the cost had been reset from the year end $$. will keep checking back until i officially check in.

23 Cents a mile-- Not a bargain!
I have a flight to FLL at the end of this month and was waiting till the new year to add some elite maximizer miles. Checking today I was offered 4,292 miles for the 'bargain' price of $988!! YIKES. I hope it comes down, as I'd like to add a bit of padding towards my 2013 elite status at a more resonable rate.

edweird Jan 2, 2012 2:58 pm

I saw 22.5 and 23 cents for the trips I have ticketed, when I checked today. (max RDM + EQM)

I'll wait and check again later.

Yep, back down to $0.11 a couple of days into the year. We'll see what this year holds.
