Are Complementary Meals back

I just booked a CLE-FLL roundtrip for December (Y) and I noticed the outbound morning flight showed a breakfast and the return flight showed a snack. No meals for purchase tag. Is this a computer glitch or for real. I noticed some other flights also showing complementary meals and snacks in coach.

I think it's a glitch as I was looking to book flights and saw these meals in Y as well.

They've had meals issues on CO's site for the past few months so i'm not to surprised. Would be nice to get complementary meals again (atleast for transcons or EWR-HNL routes).

Is this thread prediction (Spoiler alert -- Meals at mealtime again) actually becoming a reality??? I would be very very happy.

Addendum: I think if they were to bring it back, this would be a great time to do so. Could win over lots of people otherwise put off by the merger and the combining of operations, which should be in full swing by then (December that is, as noted by the OP).

Seems to affect all flights on October 1st and after. I guess we shall see in a few days.

buckeyefanflyer Sep 29, 2011 5:36 am

I agree, if any flight should have meals in Y, flight 15 EWR-HNL should, it is the longest domestic flight and should have the best service. They used to serve a meal on a hour flight.

LiviLion Sep 29, 2011 6:38 am

My flight tomorrow EWR-SFO says 'meals for purchase'

My flight next week SFO-EWR says 'Lunch'

However, last year I did SFO-EWR on CO and got a free cheeseburger (which was quite nice actually).

All a bit bizarre for this very occassionaly CO flyer.

If they did it, I think they should wait until next year. The fewer customers they have when they transition UA ops to SHARES, the better. That is going to be one unmitigated disaster, and the last thing they need is to attract more customers right now.

Mary2e Sep 29, 2011 7:09 am

I just looked at my Nov flights and they have the old verbiage. A "snack" when it's not meal time, and a meal (dinner in my case) at meal times.

I really don't care one way or the other. What they're serving in Y isn't a meal, IMHO, and I'll eat before boarding if I can or carry a sandwich if I can't. I didn't have a problem with purchasing a box of snacks/food when offered for sale.

edcho Sep 29, 2011 8:55 am

I'll eat almost anything so if food is restored especially on HNL to IAH/EWR then I'll be happy.

 I'm sure you know best.

While I'm sure it's a glitch, I would love free meals at meal time again. That was always something that made CO better then other carriers.

chasbondy Sep 29, 2011 9:49 am

I think they are back. I had 2 delicious cups of ice water on my last transcon

Agreed! ^

Another data point: My Oct 2 EWR->IAH flight shows "Snack".

A real connoisseur, eh?

Awtas Sep 29, 2011 3:15 pm

I see dinner listed on my Y transcon next week.
But I strongly believe there's a bug in the system, as CO would've announced it as loud as they can to get some positive buzz.

chasbondy Sep 29, 2011 3:18 pm

We should start a protest on HNL flights. Everyone should stop at the store and buy those tuna cups with crackers and leave the smelly cans in the seat back pocket. That might entice Star Alliance to give you at least a bag of peanuts and the whole can of Coke, instead on the vacation you saved all year to afford

kjohn Sep 30, 2011 9:13 am

On my IAH-LAX flight I have breakfast and lunch on the return.. this should be interesting. On some of my other flights, it is listed as "Snack" and "Snack for purchase" -- does this mean free snacks sometimes or computer glitch?

anyone seen an advance copy of Hemispheres to know if there is still a menu in the back pages?

I can verify there is still a BoB menu in the back of the October Hemispheres

Same menu?

chasbondy Sep 30, 2011 9:35 am

I only feel safe with my upgrade when they hand me a menu

Sorry I am not sure, I didn't look at it in real detail bc no food was offered on my flight and I forget about past menus.

enviroian Sep 30, 2011 12:51 pm

Yeah my coach iah-phx flight says "dinner". Guess we will all see next week.

TWAB747nomore Sep 30, 2011 2:43 pm

Perhaps continental will bring them back i noticed the glitch on HNL- IAH flights it is showing meal service in Y

this would be welcome news and a positive thing.

Perhaps it's a Smisek Video announcement and the video production is delayed due to IRROPS?

This bug seems to be a CO system-wide bug as it can also be seen on UA's site for CO flights.

Looks like a CO bug though since the flight status page seems to reflect the proper "beverages only" or "meals for purchase" for flights on Oct 1st.

Hi Awtas, correct on both counts. This is indeed a bug. As you may imagine, we're making many changes behind the scenes to our underlying systems as we work to move to a single system and these things sometimes happen. No changes to our meal offerings are on deck and we're working to get this fixed.

Thanks for the clarification

We can put this one to bed, can't imagine it is a surprise to many of us.

I called the Elite Line today to ask about my flight and she says she sees no meals on her computer on my flight. She says she does not see the same information as Continental.Com. it's in bold letters write on my confirmation print-out, Breakfast. I told her this can be misleading to someone who does not fly that often thinking your getting a meal and your not.

I'm sure she's now very concerned....:D
