Fare rules and repricing

Afternoon all. Trying to get my mom from SAT to BZN a few days early. She has a ticket currently for 1 Oct, returning 4 Oct booked into S and L classes respectively. It appears that the L fare is broken in DEN (i.e. two L fares, one each for BZN-DEN and DEN-SAT). She can leave SAT early, so we looked into having her leave tomorrow.

When we talked to CO about it, they said we would have to reprice the return flight as well (not just the outbound) even though we aren't changing the outbound. Is that normal procedure? I looked through the fare rules, and I see where it says any changes will repriced at current fares. But I thought that referred to the segments actually being changed.

If the ticket was sold as a round-trip ticket, then I would assume they would reprice the whole ticket (if the outbound has not happened yet).

Ok, thanks. For some reason, I was under the idea that because it was two different fares (and thus presumably two one-way fares), that I could adjust the outbound without affecting the return.
