MX in the middle of the night

Hey guys,

Seems like I'm about to have my first cancelled flight because of MX on CO. I'm sitting on CO229 that should have left DEN 1h30 ago. What are my rights as platinum? Do I get a hotel and if so, what's the fastest way to get to it before everyone else (I have only a carry-on)?

If it's mechanical, you need not worry. CO will take care of things.

It's when it's not mechanical (or debatable) when you have to worry about CO.

Not true. Per new guidelines, ALL CO/UA elites (Silver, Gold, Platinum, 2P, 1P, 1K ect...) recieve hotels for any eason if they are stranded overnight due to cancellations, misconnections with no other available flights, including weather.

Whoa...very nice. Taking a page out of the DL playbook, I see. Though DL only does it for Gold and up (SkyPriority).

Has this been disseminated to the legacy CO staff? Or will this be one of those things that only Scott and sfogate know about? ;)

Whoa whoa whoa, when was this change confirmed? That would be a nice change (but lessens the need to be 1k again), but can't imagine what the hub hotels are gonna be like during major storms... every single elite getting a hotel would sell out the 5 mile radius of ORD.

If anyone has any issues regarding accommodations, tell the agent to pull up GG Amenities to see what you're entitled to.

Don't expect the Four Seasons or Ritz.

I'd be happy with the Motel 6 and some Ritz (crackers).

This is great. I remember when that was the DL SOP, but I don't think they had done that for years a WX. Is there any place we can print GG reference?

Also, is there a place passengers can find the alliance guidelines for rebooking on other flights even if weather is the problem?

In the event of an uninformed agent, what's the best way to kindly point the agent in the right direction?

In the past on UA, I've referred them to a * profile code. Not sure I'd need to do for CO agents.

This is well-known as the international policy, however, I would be extremely suprised if cheap-o-CO would pay for a hotel for a Silver on a domestic itinerary with a weather misconnect, let alone a Plat/1K. To quote sfogate from a few days ago (so useful I saved the language):

"Domestic itineraries are only given a discounted hotel rate payable by the customer for delays or cancelations beyond CO's control: that would be weather. BUT if you are on a delayed flight of 4 or more hours between 10p-6am we will provide you with a hotel voucher. If you are connecting to/from an international destination all elites are eligible for a hotel voucher for delays/cancelations/diversion both within or beyond our control."

I'd like to see someone confirm that this policy exists for DOMESTIC ONLY itins.
