awful rip off
just makes saving Co miles for rewards and upgrades even less desirable [that is if you can get one] |
They've made some changes. And I think you'll like them.
|
Would someone like to propose another competing airline program that has meaningfully lower reward redeposit fees?
And don't forget the change fees are still very reasonable (and free in many cases). I don't know the elite fees, but on DL and US it's $150 for any award change, for general members. CO is half that. |
Its not enough to complain and still fly on CO.@:-)
We have to take our travel spend elsewhere. Prior to the massive dilution of OnePass benefits, I flew 3-4 trips a month on CO. I've cut back to 1 trip this month and that is on USAir. I've completely cut out travel in May. I'll still easily break 100K this year. |

Good question; those who do the research will find out CO/UA will have lower award fees overall compared to the competition, even after these changes (especially for lower tier elites). While I do not like this change I don't see the use of complaining about it. |
Like JerseyGirl said, all this presupposes you can actually find a flight for a reasonable number of miles. I would be happy to pay close-in, redeposit and change fees of substantial amounts if only I could get a domestic coach ticket for 25k or BF to Europe for 100k. How about: "We are charing more fees but the award calendar works and you will be able to find saver availability on nonstop flights 11 months out." Then I might actually book a reward ticket for the first time in years and actually need to change the itinerary. How much can they make from award fees if there are no award seats?
It was funny getting two versions of this email yesterday, once as a UA general member and then later as a CO Plat telling me to "rest assured..." |

Again people, the change fees are half that of much of the competition (for non-elites) in the worst case. "Simple" changes are free outside 21 days. And CO has a very good waitlist system where if you don't find the flights you want, you can book what they have and waitlist for an alternative day/time/routing and not have to pay when the new itinerary clears (which it often does). I'm not sure which other airlines offer this, I'm pretty sure AA does not. |
