UA CO flight number alignment

Any idea when UA & CO will start aligning flight numbers so things are more seamless? ie the CO flight # = the UA flight number across the board.

What I mean is that they align ranges, like all CO mainline are x to y (and UA codeshares are x to y) and UA mainline are y to z and regional partners and codeshares (ie Air Canada, etc) are a to b and b to c, etc
Is this part of the 'customer day one' that is supposed to be happening in May?

For example, CO #3209 becomes UA #3209 or whatever the case may be for the same segments.
I know CO .com has added the 'are you looking for UA xxxx from x to y' under the flight status, but in many cases it is confusing and sometimes just plain wrong.

I remember when Delta did it for Northwest and it was crazy the number of updates and changes in pnrs that happened but ended up being really good for the customer to say I was on NW xxxx and it was the same DL #.

or does this fall into the same 'we don't know what will happen and when with this merger'?

Thanks
Kevin

I think it's already happening...

If you look on UA board's schedule changes thread right now, you'll see a slew of changes that have just occurred in flight number only. My JFK-LAX flight UA23 just became UA361, presumably because CO23 is already DUB-EWR. Someone else has reported that UA1/2 (ORD-HNL-ORD) just became UA200/201.

Looks like UA's numbers are the ones changing... (;))

Thanks as219

I went the united.com and searched for the ORD - HNL and it showes as UA #1 for May, July and November all random dates. I also looked at the JFK-LAX flights and it looks like the numbers aren't changing. Now I am guessing that is an issue with united.com not having the updates you reference.

Thanks
Kevin

I'm thinking the LHR flights will end up bearing single and double digit flight numbers.

Try ORD-HNL and/or JFK-LAX outbound 9/1, returning 9/2 ;)

New numbers for UA; CO's numbers are the same plus a 6 prefix.

JFK-LAX numbers not coordinated yet, but all the 2-digit UA numbers are changed to 3-digit new numbers.

I am guessing it is an issue with united.com, where are you looking?

That is odd. Where are you finding these numbers? UA.com shows the new numbers, ITA has the new numbers, and given the rash of "schedule changes" now taking place due to flight numbers, I think it's more than a website thing. (Not that it couldn't be -- dot bomb is tear-uh-bul -- but in this case, I think it's for real.)

rkkwan Mar 24, 2011 12:06 pm

ORD-HNL is showing UA1 up to 8/28 now. From 8/29 on, it's UA201. On united.com.

koc1723 Mar 24, 2011 12:27 pm

same site different answer

the online schedule (link below) does not.
http://www.united.com/page/article/0...tle=timetables

But if you search for a flight to book travel I see what you reference.

It is interesting.

But I don't understand why they are just appending a 6 to the UA flight number on the CO website.
It seems overly complicated, but what do I know (I am just a customer). They still aren't getting to any alignment in numbering which they will need to do.

 One more data point....

JOSECONLSCREW28 Mar 24, 2011 3:39 pm

Looks like flights 1 and 2 are remaining IAH-HNL-GUM, GUM-HNL-IAH.

For me, this really puts to rest the question about who took over who.

You didn't "like" that change?

It's not really a Smisek like/not like for me, but seeing that UA 1 will operate from IAH-HNL, and UA 201 will operate from ORD-HNL makes a statement along the same lines as the new color scheme.

I think the reason the combined carrier is keeping flight 1 on the IAH-HNL-GUM rte, is bcuz IAH is the largest hub for the combined airline.
