That might be reading too much into it -- remember United is planning on using the CO operating certificate going forward, and as such, it might have been the easiest option to leave the main CO flights (001-199) alone and then import the critical UA flights (800-999) into the 200-399(?) range and then let the domestics fall after that 400-2999, followed by express, codeshares, charters, etc.

My SFO-JFK flight 10 (always loved those low PS flight numbers) got changed to something in the 300s...but there is no CO10...

Looks like flights 1 and 2 are remaining IAH-HNL-GUM, GUM-HNL-IAH.

This is my favorite flight and I am glad it retains its status as CO1, also known as AirMike One upon leaving HNL for GUM. It was always cool to hear my name like that.

I believe it is a throwback to PanAm 1, which was their westbound around the world flight (which I also had the pleasure to ride once). Frank Lorenzo always held a grudge against PanAm since they took National Airlines from him in the bidding war of 1980. Does anyone know if that is the reason for the designation?

CO10/11 was IAHCDGIAH for many years, till it was noted that CO11 had a tragic past and it was retired. Maybe UA10/11 will be IAHCDGIAH?

CO1/2 was launched in the late 90s long after Frank was gone.

Pan Am Flight 1 and 2 were their around the world flights. After UA took over Pan Am's pacific services, and then subsequently took over their LHR routes, UA operated for a short time a similar round the world service. I do not remember the exact routing but it did not include ORD-HNL, and the UA1/UA2 numbers were for a short time put on the UA around the world service. For some reason I'm thinking the routing of UA 1/2 was something like JFK(or EWR)-LAX-HKG-DEL-LHR and reversed the oppposite way.

I wonder if UA will stop having 9xx flights being traditionally US-Europe and 8xx flights being US-Asia/South America (as well as connecting hub-hub flights).

What tragic past are you talking about? The bombing in 1962?

I checked schedules after August, and looks like IAH-CDG will still be flight 32. So I dnt think flight 10/11 will be on the IAHCDG/CDGIAH flight. Also the original flight 11 before it had become an international flight exploded after someone trying to get Money from life insurance had planted the bomb where it exploded and broke off the aircrafts tail causing the plane to crash.
