Big ol' +1 to my right honorable friend's analysis. Upgrades are all over the map at the moment. I've been upgraded at 5 days out, 3 days out, 2 days out and at the gate. CO will hold to the last second it can if it believes that it can sell the seats. Just the way of things ....

Good to know. There are 19 seats available in F, I thought with that many open they would clear some upgrades. Under 72 hours out now, no luck.

Check out this post in the FAQ: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/6719534-post16.html. It helps you figure it out in a couple easy steps.

When it comes to CO Ive learned to simply assume that I will end up sitting in the exact seat I chose when I 1st was able to chose which seat I wanted to occupy.

No matter how empty FC might appear, I do Not try to game CO any longer since most likely they will 1 way or amnother find a way to get a few $$ for all the FC seats. So I expect nothing more then the Y seat I chose. Should some Miracle happen and I somehow manage to get an Upgrade Im :D and Id rather be in a :D mood then a  for thinking its a slam dunk the UP since FC is so empty

You can get upgrades on international flights ..... just not free upgrades. They cost dollars and miles. sbm12 gives the right answer above.

munjalm, you will not see standby, either upgrade or not, until you check in after the 24 hour mark.

I think what the OP was getting at are the international routes with EUA. If it's not a business first market (North America, Central America and Northern South America (Bogota on north), you will be in the queue for EUA.

Have you checked in for the flight yet? If not you will not be on any lists.

Actually, my answer specifically identifies a number of international flights where "free" upgrades are available.

As a Gold, I either cleared at the 72hr mark or not at all.

So as a UA 1P, you can't clear prior to check-in?

As long as CO has your MP number in the reservation you can, but the odds are not very good on most routes at most times.
