No Paris Hilton in the PC? ;)

PC lAs Vegas Beats Urinating Cat!!! Yikes

Back to strange behavior in the PC. By adults. So, I was in the B Terminal PC and there was a guy (a male type guy) in the bar with a pet carrier on one of the tables. With a cat. He let the cat out and the cat urinated on the floor of the bar. The poor janitor comes out and has to clean it up.

I don't think much can top that.

Ok, couldn't help myself. Was in PC in Vegas a few weeks ago and can definitely top a peeing feline. About 9am. Some guy behind a long row of cozy chairs where I was quietly enjoying my coffee and paper started wretching. I kid you not. He just stood there and vomited on the floor several times.

Made a half attempt to get to a trash can on about the forth projectile, and missed. Never tried to get to the bathroom, though it was pretty near. The whole thing lasted about 90 seconds, and when done, he went over and sat down......omg OMG. Didn't even think of heading to the men's room to clean up. How disgusting. And talk about the poor PC staff having to clean up.

Can't tell you what happened next because I decided to go join the more civilized folks at the gate!

I know it was Las Vegas, but come on!!! YUK.

You're right, puking human beats urinating cat. But it was close.

It feels like I'm watching an episode of AFV in my head. Disturbing.

Fun day at IAH C South. A woman with a toddler sits near me. Toddler immediately removes his shirt and starts screaming. The next 15 minutes are full of the kid throwing a cup of goldfish all over the floor, taking stacks of napkins from the service area and throwing them ALL OVER the place. During this time, the kid would run up and down the pathways, screaming.

The mom? Smiled and said to a passer-by "my little boy sure if full of energy" :D

Me:

I went to the desk and told them what was going on. The agent came and told her that they would need to clean the mess and put his shirt back on.

While doing this, the woman put together the fact that I left and returned nearly simultaneously as the agent was scolding her and started making loud comments to her kid: "SOME PEOPLE just have to complain about everything!" "What a world when people complain about innocent kids!!"

Amen, lady. I hate kids.

It would be nice if new club members were given a brochure explaining acceptable behavior (i.e. it's ok to take a cup of tea out of the club, but not a beer; it's ok to use the provided showers, it's not ok to groom oneself at the bar; etc.

True, but I think you are decades too late on basic personal behavior and manners. In other words, parents have to teach the basics at a young age, i.e., speaking in "normal" tones, not shouting, burping, passing gas, picking noses or other areas.
Thankfully I grew up in a time when parents, grandparents and even schoolteachers (unheard of in this day and age) did this. Though we live in a large, diverse, multi-cultural society, some groups do not know or practice "civilized" behavior.....sad and many times disgusting.

One or two decades:

"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they allow disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children now are tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.”

I just overheard a guy throwing a temper tantrum at the front desk of the LAX PC. He runs a multi-million dollar corporation, has 100 employees who fly CO, and they cannot help a colleague of his. He's done with CO.

Good riddance, I thought to myself, as he stormed out in a huff.

Slurping and Sniffling

It's 7:45 a.m. local time on a Sunday morning, and I'm in the IAD United Club near gate C18. It's relatively busy, and most chairs are full. As we sit here watching Dr. Sanjay Gupta on the TV, there's a gentleman sitting about 15 feet away loudly slurping his milk and granola off this spoon. In between slurps, he is clearing his nose by inhaling vigourously.

Twice, a person has had to increase the volume to hear the TV over the slurping and sniffling.

Normally, it wouldn't be worth mentioning, but CNN is actually interesting this morning, and clearly this gentleman's behaviour is affecting others' ability to sit quietly and listen to the TV.

Moreover, he's now stood up and gone for this fourth bowl of granola, so it's not clear that there's an end to this behaviour in sight. Considering that his body mass index is far north of 30, he could easily put away another four bowls of granola.

Back in my grandmother and mother's day, they would've held up a finger to their lips and said, "Sshhhh". I appreciate that nowadays, that's likely to be HIGHLY criticized, especially on FT.

Before I do the obvious, and go sit somewhere far away from the TV (and the slurper) and modify by behavior to accomodate the behavior of the slurper, I was wondering if the FT community might have any politically-correct suggestions as to how one might politely but firmly ask the slurping and sniffling gentleman to conduct himself in a manner that stops unduly affecting those around him in the United Club?

Forbearance is a virtue. Practice it.

Your grandmother and mother had the right method - and I would not criticize you one bit for doing this, assuming you've already tried shooting over some dirty looks which didn't get the message across...if you're not comfortable with a 'ssshhh', you can try a non-hostile "do you mind??" the next time that sound is made to get your message across.

Less politically correct is just gathering your things, vocally proclaiming "that's disgusting" and go find another place to sit.

Of course if the granola does what it should be doing (especially when inhaled in that quantity), the subject of your ire should soon be jogging off to the restroom (although I suggest you get there well before him) fairly soon.

Was in the SFO international terminal club on a recent morning, when a well dressed and very very loud man was talking to his assistant on the cell phone. He kept yelling at his assistant for about 10 minutes, because he or she had sent the wrong travel itineraries to his multiple girlfriends in the EU. Apparently, they all got the travel plans for one of the other girlfriends and now this man was on the hook to explain why Carla, who was to join him in Rome, was sent arrangements for a Rhine cruise under the name of Anne... and so on.

The rest of us in the lounge really enjoyed the show and had a good laugh as we debated scenarios of how his European vacation would play out. The way he was talking to his assistant, we figured it wouldn't be very long until his wife in the USA, was forwarded those itineraries too.:D
