Reminds me of the long-standing "benefit" from AmEx platinum/black card holders.... "Buy one full-fare (i.e., ridiculously-priced) J ticket, and you can bring along a companion... for FREE!"

woo hoo.

How many people actually get their money's worth out of THAT benefit?!?!

I looked that one up for a C ticket to South Africa for my +1 - could get a Z fare for $5,000 (x2 obviously), or a full fare C for...you guessed it, $10K. AND the companion ticket doesn't even earn miles. No thanks.

Anyone who usually buys full fare tickets, or was going to buy a J ticket

And anyone who has a company that may pay full fare for the original purchaser and then allow for them to use the Amex benefit to get a 2nd person at no additional cost. Not that this has happened to me, just that I can see how in some cases it would work out.
