Cool baggage fees with a codeshare

I am booked on a flight out of CLE to connect to an international air new zealand flight, bound for BNE AUSTRALIA My travel agent had no idea about the one free checked in bag policy, and having to pay for any other checked in baggage But my question is this....I have had 2 different stories from continental that with them my bags (2) of them go free to LAX to my connecting flight has i am going international. But Air New Zealand say i have to pay $50 for my second bag. Continental said my bags will be checked all the way through to Australia, so who do i pay the $50 excess baggage fee to and will my bag get lost. You know stranger things have happened with airlines...My flight may have been cheaper but with all these excess baggage fees I should have flown with VAustralia

The carrier you check in on is the one who governs fees. You'll get whatever CO rules are, but because CO doesn't fly to Australia there isn't anything listed on the baggage chart fees. My guess is 1 bag free.

I stand corrected. Didn't realize CO flew there 3x/week. In that case I guess the Asia/Pacific region applies, in which case no fees for first two bags.

im flying air new zealand out of LAX to BNE AUSTRALIA.... CO is my flight from CLE to LAX...CO say my bags go free as it connects to an international flight....YET.....AIR NEW ZEALAND say......NO 1st bag FREE 2nd BAG is classed as excess baggage and will cost me $50 as they only allow economy class 1 bag per trip ..... so if i have to pay for my 2nd bag who the heck do i pay, as CO said they will check it all the way thru to BNE

When you check in at CLE, make sure you have a printed itinerary for the whole out-bound trip. Assuming it was all booked under the same ticket #, CO in CLE will check your bags to your final destination (as long as you don't have an extremely long layover in LAX, usually 4-8 hrs is the cutoff) and you won't have to pay any excess baggage fees. If CO makes you collect your bags in LAX & re-check them, then you'd pay the fee to Air NZ upon checking them.

On the return, the same should happen by Air NZ when you're leaving, but you'll then be forced to go by their baggage policy, as they're the originating carrier.

Hope this helps!

They haven't stopped, but many Air NZ fare classes don't earn miles on a lot of *A carriers frequent flyer schemes.

This is simply not true.

Depending on the fare the earning might not earn but generally speaking NZ flights still earn in OnePass and every other *A partner program.

The V fare should earn 100% RDM and EQM credit. The K fare will not. http://tools.wanderingaramean.com/To...alculator.aspx or http://www.continental.com/CMS/en-US...spx?ItemId=379 have all the details.
