Lounge issue at NRT.....help
 

I am going IAH-NRT-MNL...

I am BF landing on IAH to NRT but since JAL isnt a partner, I am in coach going to MNL.

Everytime in the past I had no problem getting in the the ANA or NW lounge.
However, on my last trip, I tried two ANA lounges and was rejected at both.

I understand NW...but what has changed with ANA? They even picked up the phone and called somebody because i was so persistant.....but was still rejected.

Is this just the way it is or is there some secret Yokyo handshake I am missing?

Check here for a list of lounges you can enter as a Star Alliance Gold member. As I understand it, you must be departing on a Star Alliance member airline for entry. Since JAL is a OneWorld member, I think that is why you were denied.

I haven't flown CO but have flown UA there many times and never had issues with getting into an Ana lounge (most recently earlier this year). It's possible something changed recently and Ana has new restrictions similar to some TG lounges at BKK (*A can only use specific ones).

You could also try the NRT UA RCC which isn't bad.

You are departing on JAL. You can't use a Star Alliance lounge at NRT.

Yes, you need to depart on a Star Carrier in order for you to access the ANA or UA-RCC lounges.

You were leaving on JAL, which is why you had no access.

I used the UA RCC which had a superb shower.

They must be giving access to a lounge to get this done. Probably is UA rather than ANA.

The OP is not departing on a Star Alliance flight. Therefore will not have access to UA RCC.

CO's BF Amenity page states, that there will be shower facilities upon arrival in NRT. Wouldn't it be logical for it to be the UA RCC?

Yes, you have a good point. But, NRT seemingly does not have arrival facilities for BF pax connecting to non-star partners.

The BF concierge at IAH can probably organize a shower at NRT if the passenger was completing travel at NRT.

This seems to be such a dumb arrangement....but its what it is.

Sortof. I tried to use this once. I was given a coupon for the public shower facilities and escorted through immigration and customs - a route that is pretty hard to get lost on - and then left to my own faculties to find the facility. Needless to say, I wandered around for 30 minutes and then gave up.

So, the shower rooms at the airport are the best bet for the OP. And they are really nice and clean and not too expensive at NRT!

Upon arrival in NRT I was admitted to both UA and ANA clubs.
I guess by virtue of my PC card? and an outbound Star flight?

So without one of these you're screwed if you BF into NRT w/o an outbound Star flight?

Might be the only time I would consider a quick refundable ticket purchase.

You are *Gold (I assume as CO Platinum). As *Gold you get lounge access when departing on a *A flight (even in Y). I think you also get access on a PC membership to all UA lounges. The problem is departing on a non*A flight.

The lounge rules are incredibly complicated.

These ANA folks are strict, I flew UA in paid C from SIN-NRT then DL NRSA NRT-HNL. ANA does not have arrivals lounge however I was admitted into the UA Lounge as a paid Biz passenger and * Gold.
