There's a little red triangle to the left of every post. I'd encourage everyone who was offended by that remark to please click it to report the poster to the moderators of this group. Collectively, we can get rid of people who abuse the right to post on these boards.

Thank You

so do you think the problem in the OP is related to training? What do you think the reason is?

What I found objectionable was the fact that the Kiosk couldn't (or wouldn't) even do what I wanted - it could move me to a flight I didn't want, then only the agent could put me on standby for the flight I really wanted... it seemed like a waste of time and something he could have done with a few keystrokes (which he wound up doing anyway....)
As to the stand-by and upgrades. This is one of the things that I like about SDC. As a Plat it is free for me to change flights and I have used it many a time. I have also changed with SDC and still received the upgrade. I don't think that we will see the end of the sale of the front or ELR seats on any airline so it is best when possible to confirm as early as possible to ensure you get the seats you want. While it was not the case of this flight (back was empty) you should also note that when confirming onto a full-flight, they may have to upgrade people (of lower or equal status to you) in the back to make space for you on the flight and thus you lose the chance of the upgrade. |
I am not all that familiar with how the kiosk does the SDC as I have not worked the ticket counter in many years. I can only assume that it offers you a flight that has available in the fare bucket that your ticket was originally purchased for. If this is the case and you wish to standby for another flight, then yes the ticket counter agent would have to assist you. CO wants customers to use the kiosk before seeing an agent since it is easier for you to pick and choose the items you wish to purchase, such as emergency/bulkhead seating, fees for checked baggage, etc than to wait for an agent to process these items.
If your flight was open for seating immediately (using the SDC) then you could have been placed on the upgrade list for a battlefield upgrade. I do believe that you would still need to be added manually to this list. If your flight was full, then the gate agent needs to make room to clear you into a Y seat. That means that the agent needs to upgrade someone into F before you can be seated in Y and get added to the battlefield upgrade list. You will always see non-revenue (employees) on both lists if they have requested to be cleared into F. Those are the only names that will appear on both lists without seats. If you are one of those customers that only wishes to be cleared onto an earlier flight in an F seat (you had an EUA) then you need to speak with the gate agent about this. The gate agent will go into your PNR and add a standby segment for the flight you want to stand by for as a F customer. The uniformed serviceman could have been someone's "companion" for an upgrade. Remember we don't require that the customer be in your PNR, only that they are traveling on the same flight as you. You too can ask for a stranger to be your Elite companion/added to the standby list. |
Clear & Concise
It would be terrific if you could work with Scott
(in a way you are anyway) You are a great asset to us |
Failure to Upgrade Coach Pax
Tuesday, Jan 25, 2010
BWI CO flight 727 (BWI-IAH) was a 735 (two rows in F). I was in 2A and was watching the upgrade list on the pda site while other pax were boarding. 1A was empty, but before the door closed a coach pax got upgraded. Gate agents never paged the pax or went back to coach to move him/her up. The seat flew to IAH empty with quite a few people on the upgrade list. |

I wouldn't call that shenanigans, but rather laziness. Big difference.
