Tomorrow: New Row Numbers

Can CO really change their entire fleet overnight? That is what seat maps are indicating...rows will be re-numbered starting tomorrow. I would hate to be that person assigned the bulkhead and arrive to find it two rows back. Has CO converted any planes yet?

They put *A stickers on the front of every plane in only a day or two. Replacing a couple little tags inside the plane will take a bit of time but I would imagine that it will happen quite quickly with the maintenance folks.

I wondered about this as well, but I'd assume that tonight CO will have employees out there ready to install the new seat number tags before the flights tomorrow with the new numbers start operating.

I sincerely hope that 1E remains an aisle seat in the first row.

Can I ask why they're changing this? To align with US?

Nope...they want the bulkhead and exit rows to always be the same number on the narrow-body fleet. That way ELR seats are mostly the same number and it helps address potential aircraft swap issues.

Wow interesting, looks like exit rows are 20, 21 (just saw it on the preview site).
Looked at some of my mainline 73x bookings, seems to be changed there only.

No changes on 777.

Wow...a big step for such a small program, imho. Let me believe that they are doing this just to make it easier when E+ is added to the CO planes....just let me believe that for a while!

Besides going thru the booking process and pulling up the seatmap for a sample flight, is there anywhere I can see the old vs new seat maps?

Correct, mostly. It is on all the mainline narrow-bodies so the 737s and 757s are being changed. The 767s and 777s are not.

Nope. But the map is the same in terms of the number of seats and where they are front to back on the plane.

OH GOOD GRIEF!!! :td::td::td:

I can JUST IMAGINE the total CLUSTER F*&)#) that this will be!:mad:

And I say this from FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE....

738 plane for vacation I was in 1EF/2EF. Plane changes to 737, and 4ABEF are no longer on the plane...GUESS WHAT????Yep-I get BOOTED from 1/2, E/F and get spread out all over the cabin. MAJOR :td::td::td::td::td: to CO.

So-if this is any indication to how CO will F($*(#* up this switch...help us all!

Well, one of the main points of the switch is to try to prevent situations like that from happening. All my reservations made before the new numbers were introduced transferred to the new assignments just fine. I think that assuming things are going to break based on a somewhat unrelated scenario is a rather pessimistic, no?

Not sure I see how this is the same situation. The renumbering effort is designed to make the Y cabin's 'premium' row numbers consistent across the narrowbody fleet, so that if you're in an exit row before an aircraft swap, you'll STILL be in an exit row after the swap. In your case, the swap resulted in a plane with fewer physical F seats and you were involuntarily downgraded. That would have happened regardless of the row numbering.

Ha Ha.

Reminds of when I first status matched from AA to CO (several years ago).
On my 1st CO flight as an Elite, I was upgraded to 3B.
So I plunk my happy bottom down into the bulkhead aisle seat.
Almost right away, someone else shows up claiming I'm in his seat. F/A notices this right away, checks his boarding pass then asks my what my seat number is...
Me- I have 3B
FA- Then you need to move to your seat
Me- But I'm in my seat
FA- No sir, you have a seat in row 3 which would be the third row. You're sitting in the first row which just happens to be row 1.

I look up at the little stickers and she was actually right.
On AA MD-80s, 727s (I did say several years ago) and now 737s, the 1st row is row #3 (for reasons I'll never know).
I give the FA a lot a credit for tactfully teaching this Elite flyer how to count 1-2-3

I still get completely messed up on Delta 757s. Depending on which configuration you get, the first row of Y can be 16, 18, or 19, and on a certain version, the last row of F is Row 7.

On one of my early DL flights as a Medallion, I was flying on one such 757 SLC-LAX, and at check in (no kiosks) I asked an agent for a seat with some more legroom, since I assumed my original assignment of 19F didn't seem to be a good seat. She told me she wouldn't be able to do anything at the counter, but that she would "take care of it at the gate" since departure time was less than an hour away. I walked upstairs and saw that Breezeway (RIP) boarding for the flight had already commenced. I headed to the door to get on, figuring that a better seat wouldn't be crucial for a 90-minute flight.

At the door, the BP reader spit out a new seat assignment of 7A, which I assumed was the first row of Y like CO's 752. Pleased that the agent had seemingly kept her word, I boarded and settled into my seat on the window adjacent to the 2L door. Several minutes later, another passenger appeared, holding a seat assignment for 19A. Just as I began to motion the passenger back toward the middle of the Y cabin, I glanced at the smallish row number placard above me, and saw that 18/19 was indeed the first row of Y. Confused, I collected my bag and went to the F/A, who pointed me toward 7A, actually a FC seat. I was pretty happy about this backdoor route to my first DL upgrade!

Funny story about that flight... immediately after departure, the passenger in 7B began watching an episode of the HBO series "Eastbound and Down" (unedited) on the Delta On Demand PTV. If anyone is familiar with the final episode of the series, the brief opening segment before the title card ends with a close-up of the rather excellent breasts of the female lead (or a good body double). Well, it was at precisely this moment that the long-winded purser decided to make the first announcement of the flight, pausing the image on the screen for all to see. 7B made no attempt to cover it up, and gave a wry smile as some chuckling was heard from the first few rows of the Y cabin behind him, which had an unobstructed view of his screen.

I got a good laugh out of that one.
