Koito lawsuit in 3...2...1...

Oh I can't wait, this 735 Tuesday to EWR from IAH is not acceptable.

Not on CO in several years. The 135s haven't been in the CoEx fleet in several years.

There should also be a 772 or two at PAE.

I'm sure Jeff Smisek already has an email into Koito Customer Care. If they're anything like his very own WE CARE, he might get 500 Koito points and a half-hearted apology telling him that it's really his fault in the first place. :D

It is interesting to note that Koito was also the manufacturer of the gas pedals for those Toyotas that were recalled..

Seems that they have a systematic safety issue.

I'm not generally in favor of wiping out a whole company, but if their corporate culture is so dishonest and is causing significant danger for the public, it may be time to kill the company.

Why is CO still ordering seats from Koito??

Forget the fact they are less comfortable than sitting on a wooden bench in the park, but a simple web search shows they have a long-standing culture of falsification, safety violations and deceit - and this pre-dates the safety escapade that got the Japanese government involved.

Also, I don't believe Koito manufactured the throttle systems for Toyota - but Toyota does have an ownership stake in Koito Manufacturing and they are part of their exclusive supplier system (keiretsu).

Sounds like the perfect opportunity to source a new seat supplier and design...sometimes you need to bite the bullet and move on.

This is CO, though. Do you really expect them to look at a different seat manufacturer, even if it's just for new planes? That would involve having two (2) different types of seats, and its maintenance facilities would have to to be trained in how to install or maintain two types of seats, not to mention stock parts for them.

It would cripple the company and cost them millions. It's probably cheaper to park the new planes in Seattle until the dust settles.

CO has already contracted with Koito to deliver the seats and cash has probably changed hands. CO uses B/E Aerospace seats on all 777/752/739ER, so it's clear they are moving in a different direction in their Y seat sourcing.

No they didn't manufacture the throttle systems, but no fault has been found in the throttle systems either. The recall had to do with the gas pedals themselves. In very specific situations there was a potential of them sticking. Koito supplies other manufacturers with pedals as well (and NHTSA is investigating them too).
