First Time at IAH!

Somehow, some way, after more than 600k EQMs on CO, I will transit through IAH for the first time tomorrow. Not sure whether to :) or :(.

Taking CO107 from EWR on my way to GIG, with a 2:22 layover. Plan on having dinner there - any recommendations? Also, I imagine there is more than one PC. Which one should I visit? Be on the lookout for my FT luggage tags - maybe this is the day I get spotted! :p

As I am typing this, I am wondering if there are any other long-time OP members that haven't been through Houston?

Have dinner at Pappadeaux's and visit the Terminal E PClub, as that is the terminal your GIG flight will depart from most likely.

+1....welcome to our humid home

+100 Pappadeauxs at E4 is the ONLY place to eat. Don't miss it.

CopperSteve May 7, 2010 6:38 am

I guess Pappadeauxs it is! ^

jbcarioca May 7, 2010 6:47 am

Gotta be Pappadeaux E4. Either was enjoy your first IAH transit. Xfers there are rarely difficult except in the hurricane season.

I fly out of/into IAH almost every week but never eat at the airport. So is there anything special at Pappadeauxs in terminal E that one might not find at local Pappadeauxs around Houston? I have eaten at various Pappadeauxs in town and enjoyed their food. Especially like those fried alligators- taste like chicken :p

Although I haven't eaten at the airport location, I did take a look at their menu, and they were advertising a $13 (if I recall correctly) lunch buffet that included cold-boiled shrimp, crawfish etoufee and a bunch of other stuff. Like 15-20 good looking items. I don't think any of the normal Pappadeauxs offer a lunch buffet.

But man is their food good. Mmmmhmmm

Mhmmm....I miss the lunch buffet...it was $9.99 for Airline Employees, we all would sneak out of work early and head to Pappadeaux's for Lunch =)

Now when I think about it...I need to book a lunchtime connection through IAH =)

If you want another choice (although Pappadeaux's is great), I have enjoyed Le Grand Comptoir in terminal C.

The Real Food Company in terminal C isn't bad either.

When I think about it, IAH is actually pretty good for eatin'.

Fixed. Great food in and around the area.

E PClub is where you'll want to be. The staff is friendly and the bartenders are top notch. If it's Damien or Tripp, then you're in good hands. They're fun to be around if you sit around the bar. I like their margaritas. Bloody Mary's are pretty popular. Actually any cocktail is fine.

Since I live relatively close (by Houston standards) to the airport, I sometimes come to the E PC to hang out.

CopperSteve May 7, 2010 11:35 am

Thanks for all the positive feedback. ^ I haven't been this excited about a layover in a long time. :D

I completely concur with the staff at the E PClub. Agents and bartenders are great.

But dude, let's get you playing golf or find some hobbies so that you aren't hanging out at the airport!

OP here. Flight to GIG delayed. 6.5 hour layover now. Never been here, as thread title indicates. Should I venture out? Pappadeauxs isn't for me - can't have seafood.

If you're up for a burger, there's a Fuddrucker's near A1 (you can take the shuttle over there as well so you don't have to go through security again).

I concur with the compliments on the Term E Pres Club. Actually, just about all of the bartenders are great - but Tripp is my favorite. The italian margarita is ridiculous.. after a few of those, you can even bear coach! ;-)

Well, I asked a PC agent for a restaurant recommendation and she sent me on the train to the Marriott. Sitting in JK's revolving bar, sipping a Chambourd, having consumed a so-so cut of prime rib. The agent gave me a $30 voucher, which I wasn't expecting.

It has improved in recent years. Terminal E was the first big improvement. Terminal C, until about a year ago, was pretty lacking, but the recent additions there have really helped improve the food options there. Terminals A and B still need a lot of improvement, especially if you're looking for something to eat after around 8:00 PM.

If in BF that is most likely the reason for the $30 voucher. Like others have mentioned, there are several great places in C opening up and within the year I believe the Gallaghers will be open in C South.

The Pappadeaux does have a few none seafood items on the menu that are good as well. Especially the Key Lime Pie!! Other entrees too!

The E PC staff and the Bartenders are great!!

+1. I "try" to only come to the airport when I'm dropping someone off. The conversation goes something like this: "Oh you need a ride to the airport? Nah, I'm cool. No, Let me take you to the airport."

That's pretty cool. There's only so much that you can do (and drink) at IAH. It's kind of tough getting around Houston without a car.
