ERW-LAX-SIN Help

I need alittle help with this route and what to expect now that CO is part of SA. I need to go to Singapore the end of this month and instead of doing the EWR direct I am meeting a co worker at LAX and doing the SQ direct to SIN from LAX. My co worker told me last time he went to SIN he booked it all via United and they were able to check his bag though DEN-LAX-SIN. If I call CO first will they be able to book EWR-LAX on CO and LAX-SIN on SQ? If yes will they be able to check my bags though? Thanks for any help.

Yes, call CO and you can get this routing. Yes, they will be able to check your bags all the way to SIN. (especially if it is all one ticket (same PNR).
I have a feeling the prices will be higher compared to EWR-SIN direct.

Also, check is the prices are different if you buy through SQ with this routing.
SQ was offering some 8% discount on its direct all-business-class A345's.

CO will also be able to check your bags through if you book this on separate tickets. However, if things go south somewhere along the way, having both flights on one booking gives you some protection because the airlines will be responsible for getting you to your final destination. On separate tickets, you're on the hook if something goes wrong and you miss your connection.

The all-business-class nonstop generally runs in the $6000+ range RT when I've checked prices. You can book separate EWR-LAX (CO) and LAX-SIN (SQ) flights for a total of $1350 (as an example for a random late February to early March RT) in economy. Now if the OP wants to go in Business Class, that's a different story...

I think SQ has these options (please correct me if I am wrong) from EWR and LAX.,

EWR-SIN = All business class A345
LAX - SIN = All business class A345
LAX-NRT-SIN = 747 with 3-classes of service.

Looking at this on the ITA tool (I'm assuming the OP is travelling in Business class based on the mention of the LAX-SIN nonstop):

There doesn't appear to be a CO NYC-SIN fare that lets you travel EWR-LAX on CO and then onwards on SQ. However the SQ fare SIN-NYC does allow the LAX-EWR portion on CO. The way ITA prices it is as follows:

CO EWRLAX BCOUPP fare $761.86
SQ LAXSIN DSPCL $2651.50
SQ SINNYC JMPA NUC 4102.02
The total fare is $8,026 round trip.

This is correct.

Thanks for all the advice. My justification to my boss (so I can meet my co worker) for going to LAX is actually because EWR-SIN is $8700 and LAX-SIN is $5700. I can get a M class fare to LAX with instant upgrade for $1000 which still makes it cheaper to do LAX :)

I am glad I can check my bag all the way though because LAX is a pain when it comes to luggage. Thnaks,

Yes, there is no more Premium (Executive) Economy on the EWR/LAX nonstops to SIN. In one of the greatest boneheaded moves in modern aviation history, instead of recognizing the stellar quality (leaps and bounds over every other Prem. Eco product on the planet, and better than some C as well) of their Executive Economy product and marketing/pricing it accordingly, they let the seats go at sub-$1800 fares, rarely promoted it and started complaining that they were losing money.

Their response? Make the aircraft all C class and start charging through the nose - right in the face of the worst non-depression economic slowdown in history. Loads dropped to almost nothing, but they began aggressively discounting the C fares to corporate customers - so instead of pricing Exec-Economy for what it's really worth, they now give C away to certain customers and overcharge (even after discount) everyone else.

Let''s hope they wake up and bring Executive Economy back...SQ is usually smarter than this.

Yes. Company policy anything over 8 hours is business class and since this a 19 hour flight I am within the limit :)

Both my SQ flights LAX-SIN-EWR were full on the all C flights. Doesn't seem like much of a market for PE when people seem to be willing to pay for C.

Correct. These planes almost always go full from LAX-SIN and vice versa. I've always had a hard time booking these (since I'm always trying to get tickets only a few days in advance). Plus SQ has some weird revenue management (for example, SQ online will have available seats but SQ USA and SQ Singapore can't book me into it because its SQ Online's seats).

They are full because the fares are affordable for certain business customers - if you work at a company with a corporate discount, you can do the nonstops for about 2000-2500 each way (a couple companies get lower rates, but the tickets have some restrictions). If you're Joe-off-the-street, your price is about double that for the same seat.

The question is - how many Joe-off-the-streets were on your flight?
