Even though I disagree with the buy ups to non elites, I was wondering if CO could actually charge even a slight premium more for the upgrades, even if it was only 25$-50$ more than the difference to F, I figure the person would still take it. The market they are targeting is not price savvy on what F costs, they are buying spur of the moment at the kiosk. It is unlikely this audience would even price F at booking to notice a 25-50$ increase at the kiosk.

Just my insane opinion,

That might be a fair trade-off. Charge the difference to the lowest F fare plus the $50 same-day change fee for non-elites. It would be no more than someone who wants to change to another flight.
