It's happened to me a couple of times (record out of sync - no EUA's until after my record was fixed). It's generally been the result of some sort of manual update to the record - Waitlist for an upgrade with miles; waitlist for an alternate flight; Travel Agent doing weird things; etc.

I am flying TUL-IAH-LGA-IAH-TUL this Sat and Sun. I got the upgrade from IAH-LGA but no love yet on TUL-IAH. Tomorrow it will be interesting what I get. I know that the TUL-IAH is probably a heavy F Fare purchase but would have thought it would come through already. We shall see. I have gotten the upgrade 4 days out on OKC-IAH so that may happen tomorrow.

Be nice if they'd fix it. I like knowing in advance if I can take a 3rd bag or if I need to buy food in the airport.

That will likely affect you but not break it for everyone.

Based on my observations when it was me, think an out of sync record breaks it for everyone. Basicallly - no one upgraded (based on pda site) until after the record was fixed. This was some time ago - there have been multiple similar reports over the past several years.

This is my experience as well. This bug has been there for at least 5 years.

But something else must be happening as of late that causes it to happen more, because it was rather infrequent.

EUA by design aborts so as not to skip over and upgrade people out of sequence.

Now that the checkin loophole is gone, while you may get your upgrade late if there's a problem, at least the upgrades will be issued in the correct sequence.

I am having it happen too.

FLT 934 MNL to GUM Nov 1.

I used rev up plus miles for MNL to IAH.

The MNL to GUM leg is usually the first to UAE.

The F cabin is still a ghost town just as it was two months ago when I booked it.

I have called the Plat Elite number on the back of my card and I mentioned the problems I have been hearing about.

The agent was insistant that I had no idea as to what I was talking about. There is no freeze issue and that I might have better luck at the 5 day window.

Anyone have any suggestions?

That is almost certainly a case of inventory not being released, not anything broken in the automated systems.

Moreover, calling any agents at this point to ask them why the system is broken is a waste of your time and theirs.

Despite claims here otherwise (I'm looking at you, cova ;)), the vast majority of cases that appear to be "broken" are actually cases of CO managing their inventory.

After all the complaints from people here that there aren't seats available for last minute purchase I'd think there would be much joy at these changes. :p

As stated, if R is zero - no upgrades regardless if all F seats are empty. Please check R bucket (via phantom booking with mileage upgrade) before you post that EUA is broken.

The "broken" situation is when when R is continuously available just before, at, and after EUA time and no upgrades occur. Whenever EUA occurs, the upgraded person will always get a seat assignment unless all but 1B is left.

Now it is possible that CO has changed its upgrade methodology and R bucket and EUA are decoupled. While EUA comes out of R bucket, EUA could be disabled at EUA time. Maybe CO new policy is that rather than zero out R during EUA, it is better to disable EUA.

Yes, I know we discussed EUA being disabled and CO Insider denied it, but I still stand by my earlier statement a few weeks back that EUA can be disabled at times on certain flights.

Ok, duly noted.....But can you or anyone suggest what would be my best course of action at this point?

In the two years of taking this route every month, this has never occurred. MNL-GUM 934 has always been the first to upgrade if not upgraded at time of reservation/purchase.

The F cabin is still a ghost town and I would wager that 1A and 1B are blocked...which makes it even ghostier.

I have a hard time believing that NOTHING has changed.

I would venture a guess that this may have something to do with the *A move.

I don't have any doubts that you'll get the upgrade. If you're really worried, call and ask what the situation is.

Thanks Hartmann.....I called a few weeks ago and was made to feel like I should go get checked for a brain tumor.

Now that it is within 14 days it would probably be a good idea to call again just to see what might happen.

Did some research on CO934 MNL to GUM and found that there is plenty of Y bucket available for $460 with the instant upgrade.

There is also plenty of H for $410.

Logic dictates that they have changed things quite significantly. They are now not releasing R bucket and instead trying to give away upgrades for $50 bucks...Plats and other elites on REV UPs be damned.

Wish I knew they were going to start pulling this scheisse prior to booking.

Things just keep getting better and better for us CO folks.

Do you think that elites from other airlines snicker at us when we walk by? I am no longer angry at CO...I am simply ashamed of myself.

Houston2mnl Oct 20, 2009 8:30 pm

Ok this gets better....Called the Elite desk again and got the following information.

I can buy H bucket for $410
I can buy Y bucket for $460 with instant upgrade

OR

I can move from my G bucket to Y bucket on my existing reservation for

$587

WOW CO knows how to treat their elites!

I would not be too upset about this. That is how the system works. If R bucket is 0, then no upgrades will be processed. CO has been holding out for B ups lately. H is not upgradeable, Y of course is. Many booking do not look at the difference, just the lowest fare - so an H purchaser will not be in F.

That said, I suspect that you will eventually get the Upgrade.

Does not appear to be anything wrong here. The problem is only when R is available (and not zero'ed out at EUA) and no EUA's (infrequent). Maybe this has been fixed.
