The BBB DO, BEER, BBQ, and Baseball, Austin TX May 9-10
With all the talk in the CO Forum about good BBQ, I thought I would arrange a little spring weekend, or at least gauge interest.
Thus the spring DO is born. Tentative dates and activites. May 9-10th, Austin Texas. May 9th, In the afternoon, I'll arrange a tour of one of the local breweries in Austin either the Live Oak brewery or Independence Brewery That evening, dinner at the Saltlick. Later that night, get drinks at the Flying Saucer, or Ginger man pub. May 10th Lunch at a Cafe either BBQ or Magnolia Cafe. 2 pm Texas Longhorns v. Texas A+M, tickets are $7.00-12.00. The only where there is alcohol in the stadium is in the suite section. It does not appear that there will be enough people to justify the cost of renting a suite, but there is tailgating in the parking lot before the game. I would be willing to reserve a mini-keg and a few bottles of wine the night before so we can tailgate the game. please post if interested. |
post reserved for list of interested FTrs.

A+M |
Reserved for the Saltlick rides list.
Yes, you will need to drive/be driven there. (Trust me its worth it.) :D Myself + 2 TexasYankee +2/3 |
Put Mackieman +1 down as a maybe.

The Aggies are ranked # 1 in the country right now in one poll and UT #4 (or 6th or 8th in others)...before much has happened says this Longhorn. There is a new Salt Lick and baseball that same weekend in Round Rock. The AAA Round Rock Express (Astros affiliate) are playing the Oklahoma Redhawks (Texas Rangers) in evening games Fri / Sat. and afternoon on Sun. Tickets are $6-$13. Yes, they serve beer although drinking and driving in Williamson County or anywhere else may not be a good idea. The Salt Lick is very near the ballfield.
I like baseball, but don't drink or even eat meat. Go figure...FlyerTalk makes strange bedfellows so they say...I didn't mean that literally now. Please put me plus one down as a yes on the baseball for sure. Frenchie Flyer |
If we decide to do the Round Rock Express game, we'd be right down the road from Taylor and Louie Mueller BBQ, no need for Salt Lick in that case :p ^
|
If I'm free that weekend, I might come down for the brewery tour + Salt Lick.
And yes, the drive to the Salt Lick is worth it. :) |
I won't be able to persuade a bunch of Salt Lick devotees; but Coopers is better.
|
colpuck, you can make me a definite. ^

http://collegebaseball.rivals.com/co...asp?CID=627294 LSU, Georgia, and Texas are the only unbeaten teams in the Top 10. I may have found a way to abandon Longhorn Basketball before Football begins again in the fall. ^ Best regards, William R. Cooper's did indeed have some good 'que (and good sausage, too), but as for brisket (my fav), The Salt Lick was far better. The only competition to the Salt Lick, in my opinion, would be City Market in Luling. That was some fine eatin'. ^ |

Having done a BBQ tour through Texas Hill Country last summer, I think I can opine: ;)

It is also true that the fake Coopers in Junction is to be avoided. But, as a general proposition, the Salt Lick can't hold a candle to Coopers. Besides, what would somebody from MSP know about this, anyway? ;););) |
count me as a maybe , I should be able to do it .
