Thanks for the suggestions! :-:
We hope that there might be someone else who can join us. Since dunk and I will be traveling to PHL, post here or PM mwg25 if you can make it and want to know where to join us. |
Too bad you guys are only in PHL on 2/21. I'm going through PHL on 2/20, then back on 2/22. Doing a MR to MUC.... If any of you arrive early, or get delayed, let me know.
I grew up in the area, and I agree with the recommendations on going into Center City. If you've never been, of course you'd want to see the Liberty Bell, Independance Hall, City Hall, and possibly the Mint. The Philadelphia Art Museum could also be nice. As a kid I used to love going to the Franklin Institute and the Wanamaker's store (now a Macy's)...there used to be a monorail around the toy floor, and this was the store used in the movie Mannequin. |
I just stayed at aloft last thursday , It was a short but great stay .
How come no one suggested cheesteaks ? Tony Lukes is only a few miles from aloft . |
kevinsac The downtown area of Philadelphia is called "Center City" by the locals. Like others have suggested, you can take the SEPTA R1 train from PHL to Center City. If you are flying in on UA, you'll arrive at terminal D. The entrance to the train line will be along the walkway leading toward the baggage claim and parking/transportation area after you leave the secure area. The trains leave at :11 and :41 past the hour. More information at: http://www.septa.org/service/sched/pdfs/R1Airport.pdf
Certainly you can do better the the cliche cheesesteak for brunch. My latest favorite brunch place is called Parc, located at 18th and Locust Streets on the edge of Rittenhouse Square. http://www.parc-restaurant.com/ Very popular neighborhood place with excellent food and not horribly expensive. If you were taking the train in, you would get off the train at Suburban Station, look for the 18th street exit from the underground station and then walk south on 18th street (going against the flow of traffic) until you get to Locust street. This restaurant is located in a very charming, upscale section of Center City. I don't think I can make it that day, but if my plans change I'll PM you. |
Gratuitous bump to see if anyone else is around Philly for brunch on Sat 2/21.
Current plan is 11am at: Marathon on the Square 1839 Spruce St. Philadelphia, PA 19103 (215) 731-0800 http://www.marathongrill.com/motsbrunch.pdf Currently just mwg25, kevinsac and myself dunk. All welcome ! :) |
